It wouldn't be fair to write a HUEG list, due to my lack of musical knowledge, so here's a small one:

Black Tide
Dragonforce
Joe Satriani
Judas Priest
Metallica
Pantera
Rammstein
Soundgarden
Testament

Been listening to some Iron Maiden lately.

Pretty good, not the best, but pretty good. Still evaluating...

TC, don't make yourself sound ignorant. :edgeworth:

Their songs sound similar, but that's because they don't stray from their genre.
Which is respectable. There are several bands that wandered off to genres that they had no business in. (LOOKING AT YOU, METALLICA!)
And the songs are very easily differentiated when you listen to them.

In short, DragonForce rocks. :rock'n:

To be honest, I agree with him. Heard one Dragonforce song, heard 'em all.

It's a good song, but they themselves have said that it's just variations on a theme at this point.

A variation on a theme is not the same as having one song with a dozen names.

And my above comment at TC was fueled by prior rage. So it shouldn't be taken as seriously as it looks.

I think that's really just a slightly bitter way of saying "Variations on a theme".

While I wrote earlier in this thread that my favourite band is Pink Floyd (which is correct), if I were to ignore them (since they're no longer active):

Image

Porcupine Tree.

Absolutely fantastic band, and though they've really changed their sound over the years they've always been good (though I do think their two first albums are kind of weak). New album 'The Incident' is coming out in Septembre, and what can I say, I heard the preview and I just can't wait. They're such an amazing band. Steven Wilson is probably my all-time favourite songwriter. While they're not the most technical musicians out there (with the exception of their drummer), they all have a unique and recogniseable sound, which always stays fresh. Oh I love them.

I have heard of the setlist, metal isn't interesting me now, most of it is noise to me.

Some bands on the setlist look good, Feeder I would easily go to see and I listen to Nine Inch Nails sometimes and there good live. Apart from that the list isn't my cup of tea.

Akane wrote:

I LOVE Amanda Palmer! <3 I've only recently gotten into her stuff (both her solo stuff and her Dresden Dolls stuff), but...DAMN. It's amazing. I actually met her at ComicCon, too!

But my all-time favorite band is They Might Be Giants. A lot of people accuse them of being some novelty band, but frankly, that's bullshit. True, they have some less-than-serious songs, but most of their stuff is pretty serious. Some of it's even downright depressing. (My favorite song by them. The End Of The Tour, is (in my opinion) about two lovers torn apart by death. You can't possibly tell me that's a novelty song. :lana:)

Their music is amazing, their lyrics are brilliant, and one of the two lead singers, John Linnell, is one of the hottest men I've ever seen. A bit of an acquired taste, but still!

If you're interested in checking 'em out, my two favorite albums by them are John Henry (1994) and The Else (2007). Both are quite amazing, though all of their albums are good. Yes, even their kids' stuff.

I fully approve of this post. I tend to slightly prefer Streetlight Manifesto, but RBF is excellent too--I have a bunch of their liner notes (for most of their albums, in fact) pinned to my walls! :edgy:

But yeah. Ska is totally awesome in general. (Skawesome?) My favorite genre, though, is probably just alternative rock.
