Does anyone know a way to reduce gif file size without losing quality? I need to get it from 8.26 KB to 6KB or less. Please help someone?

On XP you can do compression, This is the easiest way to save space. You also don't lose quality :karma:

Thanks, Brawldud. I do use XP, but it shrunk the wrong data. It shrunk the data in blue, when I needed the red data shrunk. It's for an avatar, and the maximum limit for files is 6KB, when the file is 8.26KB. Sorry, but thanks again.

Well, the Defendant's lobby was obviously the wrong place. I thought maybe someone in a section that deals heavily in graphics might find the topic faster and be able to help the user. If I was wrong, I'm sorry. It's not like it can't be moved again.

Edit: Oops. You saw nothing.

Edit 2: Some help from Ceres:

1- shrink the image / cut off the edges
2- fewer colors= smaller filesize
((3rd option: If it's not an animation, then simply save it as a JPG))

Fixed. Jpegs are evil and should be abolished from this world.

Along with GIFs. Am I the only one in the world who thought the APNG was a good idea?

Indeed, APNGs own. I'd use them, if most of the world didn't use Internet Explorer WHICH SHOULD ALSO ME ABOLISHED.

Thanks, Lunaria. And the thread was originally in the Wright and Co. Law Offices. But thanks anyway. I'll try cutting off the sides. And is APNG animated?

Jibber, Do you have any idea what you're talking about?
For sprites I would agree, but this time that's just bullshit.
JPEG greatly reduces the filesize while PNG actually increases the size of it.
How is that better!?

Well, I was joking about world abolishment, but in this case it'll be a small image (an avatar) and would probably be better off as PNG as the quality loss would be noticable.

What are APNGs?

...No, seriously. I don't know. :payne:

@Ceres

Jpeg only reduces file size if there are many colors. For sprites, which use very few colors, png saves a lot of file space.

Jibber, IE runs faster than FF. That's a big reason behind its use.

Amy, APNG means Animated Portable Network Graphic. Animated PNG. APNG.

PNGs save the color data losslessly, whereas JPEGs save it with a lossy format. Overall filesize savings aren't enough to warrant the loss of quality, Ceres. Besides, it allows 257+ colors with transparency.

Brawldud, see the above statement about APNGs.

On a related note, the biggest filesizes by far are .bmp. They don't compress well and make HUGE files. (One PNG was 40kb. I accidentally saved as bmp and it ended up 409kb)

Moral: Save as PNG or GIF. They're lossless.

Well, gif's lossless for images under 256 colours.

That said, a color limit isn't a definition of losslessness. Anything that'll make a JPEG-type image a GIF will tell you you'll lose color information. The filetype is lossless, but has a color limit. PNG is lossless and has no color limit.

I know which one I like best.
