I thought that as well. But Luke's last name is Triton. I doubt he's Hershel Layton's son.
When you go to the secret room in #2 and select the Elysian Box, there's a code on the top screen. That's the password for the Curious Village. Once in the room in the Curious Village, there's a code on the top screen. That's the code for the Elysian Box room. There's also a room that links the same sort of way for the third game to the second, but we obviously don't have that yet.

I was thinking he takes care of Luke as one of Luke's parent's dying wish. Or something to that extent XD Ther first three Layton games are regular ones. Then, the next three I believe are prologue games. From those three, we'll learn about Luke's past, more about Layton's past, and who the hell that Don Paolo is, and why he hates Layton.

Wikipedia. Which means it comes up in one of the games at one point in time. Remember, the third one's already out in Japan, and the fourth is set for a Fall 2009 release.

Still gotta do the extra puzzles but I've done all the ones in the story part of the game and completed all the minigames.
I must say, the plot of this one was truly superb, better even than the last one. The feeling of mystery and dread built and built to a dramatic climax after which everything was deduced and I actually figured some of it out ahead of time!
Tomorrow I'm gonna finish up the extras. I need to somehow earn 400 more Picarats to unlock the last thing. I guess I'm gonna be pretty liberal with the hint coins to make sure I don't mess up any of these last puzzles.

Yes, the 4th game has an unlockable, apparently 100 hour, rpg mode called Professor Layton and London Life. The mode revolves around you going about (you apparently not being Layton) helping people around the city, and has an art style reminiscent of the mother series.
It sounds very interesting, and a bit of gameplay variety can't do any harm, especially if it's seperate to the main game.

I also figured out a lot of this one ahead of time. They WERE rather obvious though. Hopefully the next one's a lot harder.
I want to go to sleep now, I'm tired from all the puzzles. I think I'll wait a while before trying for a perfect game.
About the Professor Layton and Life in London... That sounds really interesting. I'm not sure how it will work, will there be any puzzles in the "bonus game?" I like little fun RPGS with a lot of random quests, so I'm excited for that (when it gets localised which will be in a WHILE)

Then I'd say you're about 75% done. When I got to that part it just took me like... 1 or 2 more hours to finish the main storyline.
