I want a more experienced cosplayer's opinion. I've been cosplaying for three-ish years, but I'm not sure.

Okay, so I want to cosplay Klavier.

Should I buy the entire outfit online, for roughly $70-$100, or should I find a purple suit? That's all I need, really. If I really have to, I can find the black shirt and black pants.

But how often do you see a purple jacket at retail/thrift stores? Know of any particular stores I could find one at?

Imo, finding a suit jacket at a thrift store is generally a better idea, because most of the Klavier outfits I've seen for sale (at least on eBay) aren't terribly high-quality. It's also loads cheaper to thrift things if you can. Dropping $7 on a jacket that requires minimum alterations > dropping $70-$100 on a costume that's not always the best-looking.

I can't guarantee you'll actually find a jacket since it's utterly dependent on what your thrift store has available, but my group and I have had good luck. We're always finding those kinds of jackets at our local thrift shops. The bigger ones like Goodwill tend to have more, but don't discount the smaller stores too. Also, make sure you check your local thrift store(s) frequently, most of them restock new items just about everyday.
