Exporting?

Elaborate.

I think he means getting your case as a standalone DS file...

Quote:
That means images will have to be composed of both the character and the map

The only problem is that there's gonna be a need for much more sprites, unless characters only appear in one place. :payne:

1. Yes, there will be a standalone DS file.
2. I know there's going to be a surplus in sprites used,

however, Capcom uses a different system for their text compared to the one I am using. Their text is a collection sprites on the OAM layer, whereas I'm using a text system loaded onto a background layer.

What I meant by export was something like exporting a file or an entire case that can be patched to a clean rom. But, if I can export my game as a stand-alone, I guess it'd be superior to my idea ^^ How many cases are we looking at for a stand-alone game coming fro the editor?

Using DSLazy, an .NDS extracting tool, you will extract the AADS folders and files into the DSLazy folder. From there, you can add in anything you need, including sprites, .ini files, etc.

Then you can compile the folder back into the NDS file, making it a stand-alone .nds file once again.

Alright, so basically an update:

The engine is fully complete, I and a group of friends at my school are now going to make an Ace Attorney game (2 artists, 2 game designers and 1 programmer (me)) so I can release this with a full version to demonstrate its functionality like PWLib did.

Oh yeah, just won the Neoflash international competition ^^ (http://www.neoflash.com/forum/index.php?&topic=5773.0)

Have fun at school/work guys.

I was following this project around when it was first released and am very glad to see it's still in going. I mean, it's a real DS Phoenix Wright engine. How cool is that? :phoenix: I'm very much looking forward to playing your game.

Well, the game will be finished well into Spring 2010 (we're entering it into a competition on March 2010), just spoke with the storywright and artists and this game is basically their after-school hobby at the moment. So expect a case very soon (maybe October?)

I am really excited! I can't wait to play my own PW game on my DS! No viruses right? Like the one that happened when my old SD card had an empty folder named "Recycled'' and couldn't be deleted. I trust you that there will be no virus in AADS. PLEASE B12! No virus!

AADS been back is not a problem at all, as I did say to b12core. There is no issues anymore between me and B12core.

The only sad and bad thing about AADS is that Eco is back. A guy who swear to get his point across should be banned. And he is that kind of guy.

I just don't want to have to hear stuff from him, or we might have discussions again.

Just heard about this: AADS is back?! If I can finish the PWLib version and Capcom takes good notice of it, we may be able to have a legal version of Remnants of the Past on DS, not to mention a bunch of other PW fangames!

Welcome back, B12Core. Good to hear there's no more issues between you and KSA_Tech. I'm planning on making PW: Remnants of the Past on both PWLib and AADS, if that's okay with you still. I cannot wait for the end result.

No no no no no no no, you can't just show Capcom your fangame and they like it so much they put it out. Legal nightmare! Fangames are things best circulated among the fandom and nowhere else.

Well, B12Core have been back for like half a month...

And I agree with Croik, legal is a problem with fangame... especially the sprite...

"Legal" nightmare, how ironic.

I'm simply hoping that we can bring Remnants to the DS, but without Capcom's consent, wouldn't it be illegal? I do have a disclaimer at the beginning of the game, giving all credit to Capcom. I'm just willing to do anything to port it to DS...

What you don't understand is that if you deliver unsolicited materials to Capcom (I.E show them your fangames) they are then legally obligated NOT to use any of it. And even if you did go through the proper procedure of asking ahead of time, filling out wavers and such, you'd probably still only get a C&D for your trouble.

Uhhh are you...

Are you seriously implying that you want Capcom to officially distribute your fangame?

At best, people will be able to play it on flash carts for their DS, but trying to do anything more than that is retarded.

I'm reminded of that one Chinese Fullmetal Alchemist fan-game that was getting distributed. Fucker got killed so fast.

Ah, I don't want Capcom to actually distribute my game, far from it. I want to know there'd be no legal troubles if ROTP made it onto flashcarts and was being distributed around. (I won't be distributing the game, just uploading, but who knows what other people may do...) I'd love to bring ROTP to AADS and have it available for portable play, but I'd also love not to receive a nasty fine or something even worse...

Anyways, Croik is absolutely right. It sure seems that a "cease and desist" order is the only thing that can come out of asking Capcom. I'll decide on the port once the PWLib version is actually done.

Oh if that's all

then get ready for CHINESE BOOTLEGGERS to take your game and try to market it as an actual entry in the series to unsuspecting goobers.

... Personally I would take that as a compliment.

It's pointless talking about the legality of it all, as really the PWlib version is illegal, the graphics you use are illegal to use and this site is pretty damn illegal, so I wouldn't worry 'bout it.

Hey B12Core, I just came across this :
http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?t=16894

It's a midi player for DS, and it includes the source code for developpers, maybe this could allow the use of midi files in AADS ?

I'll look into porting this into Ace Attorney DS.

However, if it takes up too much space, I will not replace .mod/.s3m/.it/.xm support in exchange for just .midi capability.

Anyways, .midi files can be converted to impulse tracks (use mod tracker to load up a .mid file and save as .it)

If it troubles you that bootleggers try to sell RotP, then put a disclaimer by the beginning of the game, telling people that if they paid for the game, then claim that their money is returned, as RotP is freeware.
If you don't mind (I personally wouldn't, it would flatter me that people would pay for something I did), then don't.

Thanks for the suggestion, DeMatador.

I would be quite proud if people paid for something I did, but I simply wish that this project stays alive.
If something happened and even the PWLib version shuts down; that would be the worst, so I'm trying to avoid that.

I have taken your suggestion into consideration and have made a disclaimer in the beginning of the game.

If someone pays for your fangame not only have they been ripped off, but chances are even better that Capcom will come after you for it. It's one thing to make fan games, but profiting from them is a serious offense. A disclaimer is a good idea.

That is quite true, Croik.

The last thing I want is Capcom after me. I've made a disclaimer at the beginning of the game.
