Whatever causes Trucy to go through more grief in your mind.

Klavier Gavin walked towards his office. His bike had been playing up again, leaving him, rather unfortunately, to walk the mile and a half to work, which wouldn't have been too bad, apart from the fact that it was raining. And there was thunder. And lightning. Maybe the weather said exactly what Klavier thought about his second job as a lead in The Gavinners, with his job as a prosecutor, especially office days, being a nice escape.

Ema Skye, the best and most unwilling detective at the precinct, was driving to work on her light purple scooter, and saw the drenched prosecutor walking. She promptly sped up, way past the speed limit, splashing through a puddle a covering Klavier in a new coat of muddy rain. He barely noticed. Turning the corner, Ema slowed back down to a reasonable speed.

Klavier Gavin was one of the few people she disliked beyond contempt. She had one, very simple reason. He expected every female on the entire planet to flutter her eyelashes and smile and giggle, and act like complete morons. Well, that was Ema's view on him, anyway. Klavier actually tried to act like a total arse if only to fill the annoying 'rockstar' image that most, if not all rock groups tried rather hard to create. His whole idea backfired. Only Ema Skye seemed to think the way he acted was dumb, immature, and a total waste of time.

But somehow that got him more than the screaming fangirls that only stayed away because he had a restriction order put to keep them at least 300 meters away; not that this did any good. But he didn't know why. Completely, anyway.

Chapter one- Tough beginnings {Trucy} [present. Some thoughts in past]

I am not the victim in this. I know I'm not. So why was everyone treating me like this? They shouldn't be worried about me. They should be looking after Apollo.
He is in a coma, currently in a very critical condition, having been attacked on our way back from the theatre. I only had minimal bruises and one cut across my left cheek, yet they were fussing over me like anything. They must know they are not going to get a single word out of me. I had been sitting beside Apollo for over three hours, and I hadn't said a single word. I'm still not sure if I can. 'Apollo, please get better.' All I that I know at this moment is that it is completely my fault, having pestered him for a whole week to go see the new steel samurai movie with me. If we hadn't gone, this would never have happened. But Daddy was coming in soon. I had to snap out of it, and look at least vaguely normal, otherwise he would go completely insane, and start shouting at anyone and everyone, apart from me. Daddy never shouted at me, he said he couldn't tell me off when I'm the one who looks after him.
All I have to do now is wait for him. Daddy is well known for having fantastic, dumb, luck. When he gets here, everything will be fine. I hope.

Chapter 2- finding out what happened {Phoenix} [past]

I rushed into the hospital, not bothering to ask the desk where they were. That would waste time. If something has troubled Trucy, I have always found her myself, and with the help of my magatama, something that Maya had given to me a few years ago, found out what was wrong. I had also always found a solution to her problems, and though the one she was most probably having trouble dealing with at the moment was far less trivial than past happenings, I was determined to find a solution then as well. Easily finding the room, looking at the face of the girl that I easily considered to be genetically my daughter-even though she wasn't, (Even more so than any other child, even Pearl Fey, a short 9-year-old with a killer punch, whom I hadn't seen for a good couple of years, even before I had lost my badge and gained Trucy, due to her older cousin going, as master, back to Kurain, taking Pearl with her.) I immediately recognized the look on her face. The look of utter pain and sadness, the one facial expression that worn only by her, on her innocent looking face, made me want to cry. Trucy was the one person I could look after, and hell, she looked after me. Even though she was only 12 years old, she earned more money in one afternoon show than I could have in a fortnight.
"Trucy?" She hadn't noticed me enter. I watched as she processed the fact that I was there and as the glassy effect covering her eyes slowly faded.
" Daddy? DADDY!" Trucy screeched, running toward me at full speed before coming to a very sudden stop directly in front of me. It had always scared me when she did that, making me think that she was either going to run into me or somehow injure herself be hurting her feet with the stop, or falling over.
"Hey, Trucy. How's Apollo doing? Are you okay? What happened? How can I help?" I hadn't meant to bombard her with questions, as, after all, she was only a child, but I couldn't stop them from flowing out of my mouth before my head even thought of them.
" Daddy, please calm down. Apollo is over there. He is in a...a c-coma. I...I'm fine. We were ambushed coming out of the theatre. They... hit Apollo with something, over the head; it made a horrible clunking noise. One person also had a knife. I don't think you can help this time Daddy."
At the end she looked so forlorn that I felt I had to solve this for her. Not only did the event make her look very depressed, but she apparently didn't remember when I was a lawyer. I was nosey and found out everything, even things that I didn't need to know, even then. So I had an idea. A phone call to make. The only thing that would possibly make Trucy happier whilst I was solving the mystery of the attacker was a change of scene.
"Miles?" He had to help. Miles was my oldest friend and was one of very few. I had acquaintances, but very few friends.
" Phoenix Wright? To what do I owe the pleasure of this phone call?"
"Don't sound deliberately European, Miles. I have a favour to ask."
" Such as? I live in France now. I do not want to go back to America even by your request."
" You don't need to go anywhere, Miles. I haven't seen you for 3 weeks. Not a complete disaster, though I do miss you. You know my daughter, Trucy?"
" Yes, I do. You talk about her all the time and she is a rather talented magician. Why do you ask?"
" Miles. Trucy and Apollo were just attacked. Apollo is in a critical condition and Trucy, though only has what I think was minimal injuries-she was running around just fine- is very depressed about it."
"Look, I don't know who Apollo is, and frankly, I don't care, but it sounds terrible. What's the favour?"
" I need you to look after Trucy for a while. In France, if you must. She needs a change of scenery."
" You read that in a dumb parenting magazine, didn't you? Sure. I owe you more than a few favours anyway. She seems to be a rather well behaved child. Like that other kid you used to hang around with. Pearl, wasn't it? Anyway, I have no cases, nothing to do, and Franzisca has gone for a 4-month tour of Britain. So I have nothing to do anyway."
" Thank you, Miles. She is going to be let out of hospital tomorrow, so she could be in France in two days. Can you come to collect her?"
" Fine. I'll be at your rather strange idea of an office at 10 am Thursday."
" Thank you again, Miles. I owe you. You can cancel out everything I've ever done to help you, even defending you that time. All of it."
" Okay. Stop babbling, Wright. It is a rather annoying habit of yours. I'll see you then."
"Bye."
Having clicked disconnect on my cell phone, I hadn't realised that the problem would be after telling Trucy, though I had considered, at that point, telling her to be the real challenge.

Way to kill another chapter 3-An amount of thought and evidently decisive memories {Trucy} [present]

I am on my way to France, due to miles taking me on a 'short holiday.' I know I am only going because daddy wants to 'investigate'. He looks around crime scenes an awful lot, mostly only going after whoever is in charge threaten to arrest him on suspicion of committing whatever crime has happened at whatever place daddy has been snooping around. I don't mind though, I know daddy will find something. I miss Apollo, but daddy promised to call if something happens, and I have always wanted to go to France. Especially with Miles. Sometimes in my head I think of him as mommy because, though he isn't married to daddy, or even with daddy, he acted like my mother. Mommy had promised to take me to France in a letter she sent when I was 6 years old and could read fluently (though she did not-or could not-know that). Mommy and Miles are alike as mommy disappeared, and Miles has a habit of disappearing for a while, then turning up again. Mommy was very caring though she didn't show it much due to the fact she was very detached from my real daddy, and me, as if something would happen all the time. Miles is very nice like that, he is rather short with daddy occasionally, and sometimes looks very angry, but when daddy got fired from his old job, when he adopted me, Miles had to tell him to pull himself together in a gentle but forcing manner. Which was just what daddy needed.
And when I am very sad, Miles buys me purple candy, gives me a hug and tells me to cheer up before he starts on his childhood. The way he says that makes me want to ask him about it sometimes, though something stops me every time I am about to.
Though sometimes I get the feeling that Miles is a better parent than mommy was when she looked after me, as even though he doesn't have to look after me, like daddy does, (though I do know he chose to and am very grateful for it.) he always stays around to look after me, and when he is travelling or working, or both he still calls at least once a week and talks to me, without seeming to notice the huge phone bill that he is most definitely creating.
Though, grateful as I am, I cant help but make decision that will harm him in some way, either out of sadness, or through what I know will be daddy's rage.
If anything else happens to Apollo, I have a plan.

CHAPTER 4 Phoenix

Walking into the hospital room for the thirteenth time that week, I could feel an automatic difference in atmosphere. Though the whole scene looked the same, the ceiling could have fallen through for the vibes that were ricocheting off the walls across the room. I could practically guess the conversation that followed.

Trucy

I walk down to corridor to the living room. It is past my bedtime but I know that Miles wont mind. He is nowhere near as strict as Daddy. Standing outside the door, about to knock, though Miles always tells me I don’t need to knock to go into the living room, I hear him talking. To Daddy. On the phone, of course. Which means I can only hear half of the conversation.
“What is it Wright?” I don’t know why, but Miles always calls Daddy by his last name.

“WHATTT!” That is the first time I have heard Miles lose his comp-how to you save it? -Composture.
“Are you saying the boy DIED?!”

Apollo died? As in gone forever? Well, at this moment, I am glad I have a plan. Apollo can’t go. I will stop it. I run quietly and quickly from the room, I head for the garden. Miles has 5 acres of land and he said I can go anywhere accept the far field or the vegetable garden. Heading way out of sight, I pick up a feather and a twig. Kneeling on the ground, I put the feather on a rock and pick up the twig. Concentrating on Apollo’s face, I say the magic words.
“Abra kedabra!” Nothing happened. I guess mommy was right when she said it only happens in my book. Well, if Apollo wont come here, I guess there is only one solution left.

Phoenix.
Hanging up on Miles and his overreaction, namely being mistaking ‘critical’ for ‘dead’, I go and sit next to Apollo. For someone who was in a critical condition, his death certainly did look extremely imminent. I was only sitting there for about five minutes before the steel samurai started playing. Picking up my phone, I checked the I.D. Miles. What did he want? I had only just said goodbye. Pressing accept call, I walked to the corner of the big-ish room.
“Miles.”
“Wright. I have a slight problem.”
“Why are you sounding so guilty? Spit it out”
“Ummm. How can I put this without alarming you? Okay, don’t lose it, okay. I may have lost your daughter.” Well, that certainly was putting it straight.
“EXPLAIN!”
“Calm down. Please. I mean I have looked everywhere, even in the garden, and she isn’t there. At all. She has vanished. Poof. Into thin air.”
“How do you expect me to be calm? Trucy could be anywhere! Im coming to yours immediately.”
“Fine by me. And Wright?”
“What?”
“ you know I am very sorry, Don’t you?” Yes, I did.
“Yes, I know, Miles. I’ll see you A.S.A.P.”
“Bye.” Call disconnected. Now I could sort thins out.
Though Apollo probably couldn’t hear me, I needed to say goodbye to him.
“ Apollo. Trucy has disappeared. I am going to go look for her, okay?” How strange that I could speak so calmly to a person who couldn’t respond.
But he could. It was like a light bulb being switched on. Just saying my daughters name seemed to have an immediate reaction.
Apollo very slowly moved his head, an action that was hardly noticeable, before his eyes snapped open. So much for critical condition. I have never seen anyone so alert. Apollo didn’t have trouble speaking, either.
“TRUCY? What’s happened?”
“Apollo, you’re awake!” trust me to state the obvious. “how much have you heard?”
“You were talking to someone called Miles. You were talking about Trucy. YOU SAID SHE WAS GONE!” god, the boy looked alarmed. He looked like he was gonna have heart attack any minute.
“Yes. She has run off, by the sounds of things.”
“I couldn’t imagine Trucy doing something that reckless. Can I help look for her?”
“ Actually, I think you are the only person she will want to see. So yes, you are coming with me.”
“Okay”
Time to find Trucy.

Chapter 5 - In the style of a magicians stunt - {Apollo}

Driving into the middle of Paris from the airport, it was easy to see why this was such a famous place, and though Mr Wright and myself were not exactly there on a field trip, it was impossible not to be amazed by the lights a building that were much less crowded than those in America. The taxi driver didn't seem to notice the look of horror that was plastered on Mr Wrights face, and was pointing out buildings and 'educational' places that we drove past.
'...This is the fantastic Eiffel tower!" he announced. I couldn't help but look at the building, but before I could have a proper glance, Mr Wright screamed. Loudly. And very high-pitched. Following his gaze, I saw exactly why he had screamed, and felt a little like screaming myself. On top of the Eiffel tower, completely out of the light, there appeared to be a figure of about 4ft 10inches, with a definite top hat, and a sense of grace with absolutely brilliant balance. Trucy.

Trucy

Standing up there really wasn't scary at all. It was kinda nice looking down on all the cars and the lights.

One car stood out though. A taxi. It stood out because in that taxi was daddy. And APOLLO!!!!
Looks like I was onto plan c of 'how to get off the Eiffel tower. Magicians stunt number 43 as daddy always said. My real daddy, that is.

I leaned forward so I was very nearly on the edge. Then my feet slid forward, and I began to fall.

Chapter 6 - Slicing through the air like a knife cuts through flesh

Apollo

I watched as Trucy came dangerously close to the edge of the tower. Very dangerously. But maybe that was the point. Clearly Mr Wright thought so, as his face had gone incredibly white. Then again maybe it was just that she was standing on the tower to begin with.

I had only turned my head for a second, but in the split­-second that it took me to turn back, Trucy was falling. If falling could even be applied to the way that that she twirled through the air, slicing through it with her hands, as the knife of a murderer would slice through the flesh of an unsuspecting victim, maybe even the flesh of the murderer themselves.

This was like watching a murderer, it had a kind of sick beauty to it, admiring the way she fell, almost through the heavens, though a chimp could tell you that hitting the ground would be the knife slicing back.

Except it didn’t. There was no noise, only shock, as Trucy gracefully slowed down, landing lightly on her feet, not a single injury to be seen.

That wasn’t a magic trick. That was a miracle.

The last to chapters were admittedly very short, but I didn’t want to waffle. (There isn’t much worse than a fic that rambles on into nothing)

Prologue

Looking in the mirror now, I could see how everyone believed me. And why. Its not hard to believe someone when they are an inch from believing it themselves.

Now if someone asked my name, I would say Dahlia, without a moments thought. Responding to someone else’s name is a job well done, an act, but also like selling your soul, you name and your identity.

Like losing the part of you that used to be the only part. It had been three years since someone called me Iris, and strangely, I missed it. I missed being me. The only thing I knew was that it had to be put right again, whether I liked or she liked it or neither of us at all.
