While I thoroughly enjoyed Pandora's Box (I cried at the ending), I felt it followed the original a bit too closely. There are too many similarities.

Spoiler:
There was a murder early on, which turned out to not be a murder
Inspector Chelmey accuses the wrong person of said murder
Layton fingers the correct person, who then drops their disguise and reveals themself as Don Paolo
There is a big creepy building which everyone is terrified of
There is a big mystery concerning the town that Layton is in, the solution of which is extremely farfetched
Layton enters aforementioned big creepy building and does something extremely badass, whilst solving the mystery

But one similarity I can easily forgive (not that they detracted from the quality much in the first place) is the final puzzle, which is actually relevant to the story. These FTW.

Just finished Pandora's Box. The game was better than the first one, but there are two things that I didn't like about it:

Spoiler:
-Don Paolo's and Flora's ridiculously unimportant role in the story.
-The similarities with the first game.

Other than that, great game. :edgy:

Spoiler:
To me, the ending shifted between Nightmare Fuel (Anton's The Reveal moment, although it turned out that he wasn't a vampire after all), Crowning Moment Of Awesome (the sword duel), Tear Jerker (the message in the box) and Crowning Moment Of Heartwarming (the picture of Sophia looking down at them from the sky) - in that order.

Beat it in a single day on the 24th (Thank you play.co.uk :redd: )
And seriously. One thing.

Why the hell is Flora even in the story?
Most of the time she's with the two it just mentions her name, and she's not even there.

But even worse...
Spoiler: End-Gamish Spoilers
When it was revealed Don Paolo ditched the real Flora in Dropstone, and disguised himself as her.
1. The size. There is a big comparison.
2. How can a grown man with a deep voice do a highish pitch girl voice? :eh?:

And, I'm such a badass because I didn't cry at the ending. :wellington:
But was still saddened. Poor Anton. :sadshoe:

Now that I've finished, just a couple of questions, I'll spoiler them up just in case...

Spoiler:
Everyone in Folsense was real, in that they actually existed, it was just an illusion that the town was still all sparkling and new? I figured something was up when I first went into the photo shop, but couldn't quite place my finger on it back then.

If Sammy is Beluga's nephew, then did Beluga mention he was married at any point? I can't recall. Because Sam certainly can't be Anton's son, hence he must be the offspring of a relation of Beluga's wife/ex-wife instead.

As for the gas itself that was part of the mined deposits, it rather reminded me of Galdalf's line in Lords of the Rings regarding the dwarves and the Mines of Moria...

Spoiler:
I was under the impression the people were imaginary, too. I mean, hallucinations or not, you can't really live in a ghost town for fifty years.

Also, as much as I love this series, the next game had better not feature another fake town filled with fake people scared to death of the central tower/castle/whatever that just happens to house the one real person, or I'll be forced to call copout.

Also also, in the next game, Don Paolo will be disguised as Layton's tophat. trufx

Spoiler:
Yeah, I was a bit upset to see the ending of the game end very similarly to the first one. Honestly, I'd like Layton to visit a real place for once. One has to wonder if he's secretly anti-social.

And not really a plot point so to say, but I also thought the people were imaginary which made me wonder something. If the people were imaginary, does that mean the puzzles they gave out came from Layton's mind? Did he actually know the solutions of the puzzles before they were given out? Does that mean he doesn't really have THAT many hint coins? Did I really waste a good 3 hours on that stupid trash sliding puzzle? Seriously though, so many plot holes can be derived from this game if you really think about it. Still, the sword fight was nice.

Spoiler:
The similarity of Folsense to St. Mystere was not lost on me either. But I didn't think the people in Folsense were imaginary, just under the same hallucinations for decades via the gas released. Although, as noted by a couple of them, they suspected the lure and the appearance of the town was not as real as it used to be. After all, would they really imagine the gates to the museum were shut and then they suddenly opened? And the animals? Mr Beluga was interacting with people in the town (so he says) and he certainly wasn't under the spell of the mind altering gas.

Lie with passion and be forever damned...

Im about six or eight puzzles away from all the ones in the main game, but I can't complete any of Layton's challenges and I'm almost out of hint coins.

The bonus content's harder to unlock as well, because almost all the puzzles are just 30 picarats and the big 50/70/99 ones are the Layton's Challenges ones. Not to mention I blew a lot of them with horrid guesswork.

I like how the ending made more sense than lol robotic village, although it's mostly about the puzzles - the slump in difficulty towards the end was astonishing though. Also Folsense is the trippiest town ever.

Just finished the Diabolical Box. What can I say? Well, I'm not sure whether I liked it more than the original. The ending was far more touching, though. Nearly made me cry.
Spoiler:
Although Professor Layton 3's ending, which I saw on Youtube, made me genuinely cry. I won't spoil it, though.
I felt the plot twist was even more ridiculous than CV's.
Spoiler:
I mean, yes, a robot villiage is ridiculous... but I can't suspend my disbelief far enough to believe that Layton, Luke, Chelmey, Chelmey's assistant, Don Paolo, Anton and Katia were all having the EXACT same hallucinations.
, but the characters were all far more likable and less bland in this game. Shame that
Spoiler:
Don Paolo and Flora had no influence over the plot
, but I'll live.

Regarding the topic of Folsense:

Spoiler: PLAY THE GAME FIRST FO' SRS
This time around I believe the citizens are real, or at best a mix of hallucinations and real people.

The giveaway for this is something Niles (the little kid who likes tea and running around) says - he mentions that he used to be able to run around much more than he can manage now.

"Have I gotten old?"

Yes, you have. The li'l 5-year-old is now 55.

I agree with that, one of the more obvious examples is the photagrapher (Joseph? I can't remember), he wants to tell you the truth about the photos, hinting that he knows what's going on with Folsense.

Spoiler: My two-cents
I believe that the citizens of Folsense were not real, and not just because Layton said so. BUT BECAUSE IT CAN BE PROVEN WITH SCIENCE :sassy: ! Well, not really science, but anyways, hallucianations (err, hallutionations? oh, However you spell it, whatever) are made by the mind right? So really a hallucinationic (that's not a word i know) person wouldn't know any more that the person who is hallucinating them. Meaning that everyone in Folsense who Layton talked to only knew as much as he did (am I making sense so far?). So somewhere in his subconcious Layton eventually probably had suspicions about Folsense's secret, and his subconcious presented these suspicions through the hallucinations, such as the little boy saying that he felt like he couldn't run as much anymore, not because he really couldn't but because layton, somewhere in his mind had partially figured out that the inhabitants should have been 50 years older than they were. As for Joseph "knowing Folsese's secret", and telling Layton and Luke that they needed to go to the castle to find it out. It was really Layton knowing that the secret must lie in the castle.
...Though there are some problems with this theory, like how Luke, Layton, etc. all had the same hallucinations of the same people, and how (if my theory is true) could the people of Folsese have told Layton about the rumors of a vampire if he himself didn't actually know about it, and so on.

...sorry if this didn't make sense xD
....I guess you could say it makes about as much SENSE as FolSENSE's secret AHAHAHAHA!

Spoiler: FINISH THE GAME FIRST NOT KIDDING HERE
The last point proves that they were in fact real people. Multiple people could have easily shared the same hallucination if they were conditioned the same way (photos in the Folsense Station) and they all had the same real world anchors to ground and influence their hallucinations - the remaining townspeople.

There's also the fact that at least one person in Folsense actually moved there after the disaster - check the Profiles section in Top Secret. ;D

I just finished The Diabolical Box!

Spoiler:
The ending really tugged at the heart strings, much more than CV's (or maybe beacuse I spoiled meself silly on CV. :P)
It was much more realistic than CV's, if you can call it that. The end theme was lovely. :D
I also think that the people of Folsense are real, seeing as everyone had the same hallucinations and also, people (Like Stachen and that Hur hur guy) had moved in after the town's decline.

I still have much more puzzles to solve than CV, I was slack. :D I still have the teas to make, as well as that hamster ( I named mine Mikan, if anyone is wondering.)
Just a quick question on the hamster: After you use an item, is it gone forever or can you use it again. Like, if I have two walls and I use a one in an excerise sesson, can I use it again? Do I still have two walls?

Overall I enjoyed it all and anticipate the 3rd game.
