I think MechaBowser has enough beta testers already. Unless he plans to get more people to test v2.1.

You guys rock.

Slightly OT, but Mecha, do you know what the heck happened to DueFueFue? He's dissapeared for a few months and I know you were acquaintances with him when he was working on the Phoenix Wright Script Editor. I have that and have been upgrading and writing new macros for it that work in JFA, but I know he got alot of his work from the GS3 fan translation project.

You know, right before I discovered this project, I discovered his project. I emailed him about it, wondering if he's still working on it. I got a response back pretty quickly, telling me that he's working on his thesis right now, and that once he'd finished one or 2 articles, he'd resume work on it.

I'm excited about that project, too. PW fan cases that can actually be played on a DS :ack:

http://www.romhacking.net/utils/419/ -actual utility

http://deufeufeu.free.fr/pwsebb/ -message board

I used the message board's system for emailing him, and that got through to him fine. So that'd probably be the best way to get in touch with him, methinks.

So you've been upgrading it? Neat, what all have you done? Honestly, I couldn't even figure out how to get it to extract the scripts from the game. What would be really sweet is if someone made a user-friendly interface/GUI for editing the scripts, like what Mecha is doing with this Case Maker.

It suprised me that I found out Mecha was involved in it but it makes sense seeing as there are alot of similarities from what I've seen of CaseMaker and ScriptEditor.

Actually, all I'm doing is making new macros for python so the script itself isn't too hard. Like, for example, instead of entering the 20 or so different codes involved in starting a testimony, I have one function now, which is

start_testomony(Title, Anim1, Anim2) where Title is the title of the testimony, and Anim1 and Anim2 are the two character animations that start it off.

The animations were named by DFF in the style of MAYA_SMART and MAYA_SMART_T, which made alot of sense since Mecha uses the same style. And I know that DFF based alot of HIS work off of the old fan translation project that was stopped with the announcment of T&T.

I'm more interested in the graphics hacking. As far as I know, the coding for GS2 and GS3 are identical - there's different routines to handle them on the DS to make then split screen but the same functions that were used by the GS3 project do the exact same things in Justice For All.

But I'm not sure it is quite as fun as MechaBowser's scripting in Case Maker.

I would give it a try, although, sounds like it only works the text, not able to add custom images.

lol Definitely not as user-friendly :P

And yeah, it'd definitely be a whole lot more complex to get custom characters/graphics in. All in all, it's probably more complex than all but the most determined fan to make something really good with. But still ... fan cases on DS! You gotta admit that's an exciting thought. And who knows, maybe someone will make a utility kinda like the one Mecha is making now, but that actually alters a DS PW rom! Okay, I'm getting out there now, but it's fun to imagine :yogi:

Nice! One question though.....

How come the basic characters aren't all there? I mean yeah you have 6 characters in there, but....none of them have all of the character emotions...heck, Oldbag only had 2! You didn't even have one of the most important people! The Judge! I've looked all over in the sprites section...and can't find the normal characters..... :sob:

And this one has the right screen res for Mecha's case maker thingy. :phoenix:

Also, question about Mechas's animated images style.
I noticed that your current case maker, I have to make multiple copies of the same images to set a time delay (mainly for a character's eye blinking), instead of a normal .GIF. Does this have to do with MMF's weird animation programming style? :eh?:

Example. If frame 1 has a sprite of Phoenix idle, set with 123 frame ticks (before it goes to the eyes blinking), your case maker acts like that frame only has 1 frame tick before it moves to the next frame. This may cause a small problem in compression for the images.

Mecha's Case Maker is taking a GIf and forcing it into 10/100 sec animation speed so you have to work around that M'afraid.

It showed how to make testimonies.
It was shown in a seperate window it was greenish.
When I downloaded v 2.0 I couldn't find it.
Does anyone know where it is?

That's because that video is a video showing off what version 2.1 can do. DDR Khat made it, I believe. You'll just have to sit tight and wait for version 2.1, which is what we're all doing :headbang:

Several posts up, Mecha seems to be saying that version 2.1 is gonna be delayed. Hope we won't be waiting too long :larry: 'course, even if we are, it looks like the wait is worth it.

If you can at the very least make an item chest in RPG Maker XP that doesn't keep giving you items when you look at it, then you're ok.

Well if you would like I will explain how a condition and variables work thats all you need to worry.

+===[Variable]===+
A variable is a thing which can be changed, a close example of this would be algebra.

2 + b = 5 (in this case, B is 3)
9 - b = 5 (in this case, B is 4)
2 x b = 12 (in this case, B is 6)

Hopefully you can understand from this, B is constantly different, in the case maker, it can be numerical or alphabetical (Numbers or text)
For making things simple, I would recommend numbers. And while your making the case, keep track of what variables you are using for what, I found this troublesome during the demo case, remembering which variables were being used, for what, if i was allowed to change it and not break the game in some fashion... I admit, for more advanced and more "Phoenix Wright" like cases it will be difficult but the output will definitely be worth it.

+==[Condition]==+
A condition is something had to be met for something to happen.

So for example

You NEED the internet to do E-mails!

so IF you dont have the internet, you cannot do E-mails! simply put?

Now lets try get a little more advanced here.

IF(Value1 = 2)
+You get a cookie!

Now, this should make sense by itself easily, IF "Value1" is 2 then we get a cookie (yummy!)

I apologise ahead of time if people find this offensive or demeaning.

+==[Edit]==+
For those who were wondering
Doing Testimonies was a video done by me uploaded onto youtube. but be warned it does spoil the demo case posted elsewhere in this topic.
If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything!

Hey, don't diss WoW just because some people don't know how to be polite.

I have a quick question, will we be able to do Psyche-locks in 2.1? And what do we do to make the little animation where the chains pop up and the locks go on?

The animations can already be done. It's actually locking the parts that MechaBowser would need to code.

Also, I doubt there will be a real psyche lock feature for the case maker. DDR Khat did not have any interest in it either. Since the magatama thingy was only used by only a number of characters (Mia, Phoenix) anyway, seems kind of pointless to code it, IMO.

Infact, this is day 2 out of 8 I'll be here, ever, so I'm just telling I'm gonna have to release the thing as it is, and therefore no cross-examination (sucks).

Link coming soon.

No Cross-Examination? Does that mean it's been disabled for the public release? :eh?:

*Keeps current beta version with cross-examination.*

Seriously... Don't release it without cross-examinations.

Hmm..... Well, MechaBowser. What you can do (just a suggestion) is that if you REALLY don't have the time/patience to finish the engine, maybe you could give your source code to a trusty who has enough knowledge of MMF to finish off your Case Maker? That is, only if you decide to never finish it. Otherwise, I think you have done a nice job so far. I'd hate for it to go, uncompleted, as it stands. :sal:

If you decide to release it without cross-examinations for 2.1, then that means you would then release another update later, as v2.2 featuring cross-examinations and extra missing features like Psyche-Locks.

This thing is busted.
I make a character, and then when I click *create* and *save*, I go to make them say a text... and it's forgoten my character. I hope the next version is better, and doesn't lose data.
And put Franny's objection on it. I wanna make a case with her.

So.... Besides not having cross-examinations, what kind of features can we expect in 2.1 that us beta testers do not already have?

You did mention a few new things, like multiple case selection options (if the fans make more than one case for their fan game). Other than that, I forget. :gumshoe:

Well...... If Case Maker 2.1 is going to lack Cross-Examinations, Profiles, Text color, alignment, bold/italics, etc. then it's going to fail.

The only way this case maker will win, is if it at least has include profiles option, & complete investigation mode (where you actually have to search the bg), and present evidence, if not cross-examinations and text modifications.

Everything else, I can probably set up with scenary animations.

I hope you'll consider letting DDRKhat have the source. I mean, Phoenix Wright without cross-examinations is like a RPG without a battle system.

Anyway, looking forward to 2.1 :)

Well..... The beta that Mecha gave to me and DR Khat does have (errr.... incompleted) Cross-Examinations. You just can not present evidence at the witness's quote. Sure you can press them, and end the cross-examination, but you can't do anything else with it. But it was still worth the good, IMHO. :phoenix:

If Mecha is keeping his word, it sounds like he actually disabling Cross-Examination entirely for the public version. :sadshoe:
(Which is why I may keep the beta 2.1, if cross-examinations is in fact disabled.)

Also, I would love to help in completing/finishing the case maker. Thing is, I don't know crap about Multimedia Fusion. I've only used things like The Games Factory, Click & Create (Which later became Multimedia Fusion Express, if memory serves). But that's about it (Other than Mugen coding, but thats going off topic).

ffff I'm not giving DDR Khat the source because the whole thing is heavy stuff that noone else will get.

SO ANYWAYS
Yes I'm completly disabling cross-examination because it's horribly buggy at the moment. However, the new version also has titlescreen and multiple cases selection \0/

This isn´t so bad, since 2.1 fixes the bugs that the 2.0 had. I´m not so disappointed that 2.1 has no cross-examinations. :phoenix:
