And the whole FPS thing... I admit, I'm not a big fan of FPS. I've just recently started playing Left 4 Dead which is totally foreign to me, as I've never liked FPS or desired to play any. But, I wouldn't go as far as to say that all FPS' are the same. There's a lot of them that are pretty similar, sure. But there's some that really stand out, like Halo 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Gears of War to name a few. I've watched my husband play enough of them to know. *shot* XD

Yeah, I'm not that great at them either, which is why I've tended to stay away. ^_^;; But then I played a little bit of Halo 3 (and even got a kill while playing online, haha. XD) and started playing L4D recently. I'm not as terrible as I thought I was. But I'm by no means good, either. ^_^;;

Well I changed my mind becuase I had quite a few requests to. But while nothing bad has happened yet, if anyone does start turning a debate into an argument then I might have problems. Oh by the way, don't feel bad about being called a fangirl for shipping a pairing. I'm a straight male but I enjoy shipping pairings.
Anyway Metroid Prime series, just one little problem. At the end of the first two (haven't gotten far in the third one), you are required to search throughout the entire world to find a handfull of keys. This was quite irritating and Nintendo's reason for this was to keep some people from getting through the game too quickly (so you're going to punish everyone for a crime that the hardcore and speed runners would do...lolwhut.)
Oh and Rachet and Clank. People give games like Banjo Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country crap for collecting, but it's much worse in this series. I shouldn't have to collect inane amounts of nuts just to buy one weapon (plus collecting ammo). It's almost as much as a chore as grinding in an RPG that doesn't have a fun battle system (looking at you Final Fantasy).

Final Fantasy VII: I am a big final fantasy fan, at least of the older games, but VII wasnt as great as it is proclaimed to be. Everything about it was good, but it was blown out of proportions. It was a great game but after Kingdom hearts, so many started acting like they knew final fantasy Vii because of cloud and sephiroth without knowing anything about them, and because of it causing all those not needed VII sequels.
People who overhype on things or act like a crazy fan base tends to make me dislike the product they fan over more...

Lightning: Wepon-Bladed gun (Gunblade, one of the stupidest ideas for a wepon, in other words). "A former soldier who now fights against the government she used to defend *cough*Cloud*cough*. Hope: To paraprase he is a young boy whose mother was killed by being caught in the crossfire between the protagonists and the angtagonists. He now seeks revenge and blames a side male protagonist. Sounds a lot like Ken Amada from Persona 3 to me.

Super Mario Galaxy.
Now before you drag me off and burn me at the stake for vile heresy, please allow me to clarify with a few points:
1. I LOVE Mario, and I am a huge fan of pretty much all of his older games (even if I like some less than others).
2. Many elements of Galaxy were superbly executed, including, but not limited to, the graphics, controls, sound, music and story. All of those things were just fine. Great, even.
"What does that leave," you ask? Gameplay. Galaxy was too linear, and therefore, too easy. Mostly, the things you can do at any given time are severely limited by the fact that you're on a pretty tiny planetoid. There's only one way to go (to the next little planetoid), and there's only one way to get there (collect five blue star pieces, spin in the sling star, etc.). Now I know there are still some "huge expansive worlds" to explore (Honeyhive Galaxy, Beach Bowl Galaxy, Melty Molten Galaxy, etc.), but frankly, they aren't that huge or expansive, at least not compared to a typical Mario 64 or Sunshine level. Even though the game definitely offers some tougher challenges (Bubble Blast Galaxy, Loopdeswoop Galaxy, Luigi's Purple Coins, etc.) they aren't enough to pick up the slack for the rest of the game.
Bottom line, I just can't get over how pretty much everyone in the universe (both journalists and gamers) totally fell in love with this game and proclaimed it to be on par with, if not superior to, Mario 64, when the two games are arguably not even comparable (in that Mario 64 is more open and Galaxy is more linear, or "pseudo-linear," since it technically plays in three dimensions just like Mario 64). But just as an opposing argument, I will say that while I understand your argument of the open world/linear world, many of the critics enjoyed the new gameplay ideas that were presented with it, namely the gravity and walking under a planetiod to name a few examples. That and it had a good amount of replay value with collecting all the stars to play as Luigi. That and the score was pretty great.
But to agree with you, the power ups were pretty underwhelming, and some of the bosses were fairly easy.

I guess multiple gravities and walkin' 'round in circles just didn't do it for me...
By the way, another Mario game I thought was sadly pumped up was Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. Pretty much all the journalists treated it like it was just as good as Superstar Saga, but (at least in my opinion) it really WASN'T.
The story was offensively generic and uninspired (space aliens invade? seriously? throw in time travel just to make it even worse) and the dialogue itself was pretty plain compared to the comedic gold in SS.
What's more, the graphics (particularly those of Mario and Luigi) somehow managed to be UGLIER on the DS than they were on the GBA (subjective, I guess). What the crap?!
Finally, the music just seemed mediocre. I know, Superstar Saga's music looped just as much, but you didn't care because the melodies were actually enjoyable to listen to. Not so with Partners in Time. (Again, an incredibly subjective matter, but what can I say?)
So maybe my grounds for this one aren't nearly as concrete, but I was just putting it out there.

But even those games don't compare to king of overrated. That, in my opinion, is Grand Theft Auto. Why do I think that?
1. The firing controls are some of the worst I've seen, especially GTAIII. You end up missing the target have the time. And sometimes you accidently kill someone you don't want to.
2. Some of the missions are either too bland or too frustrating. Nothing like replaying a mission over and over because you accidently killed someone or get killed yourself or the criminal or car your chasing gets away.
3. Going around killing people, while at first amusing, gets old very quickly.
I can go on and on. The best thing about GTA is the minigames, and some of them aren't that great. If you like GTA, and don't agree with my opinions, that's fine with me. But I don't like it personally.

MK Wii~Ok, ok ok. It's suppossed to be the best mariokart game ever. And I guess it is, and I had fun playing it. But once I had unlocked EVERYTHING and gotten 3 star rating (This took me...1 1/2 months?) there was nothing else much to do. I Pwned everyone online, apart from the occasional expert with a creepy name like '>$A|\/|*[OC]%<' (what is the deal with that? Can somebody tell me?). I soon got bored with it and after that there was not much replay value. I preferred Double Dash *brick'd*
CoD~Do I have to give a reason? Just look at almost every comment here. Reason enough.
CLUB PENGUIN~Oh lord, don't get me started. What, you waddle around and meet new friends? Big whoop. Theres nothing else to do apart from the occasianol sucky minigame and the secret cases or whatever they're called. The only time I use this is when my MSN isn't working. And it has its own DS game? Pur-lease. Not that I exactly like it, but I think runescape is more deserving of a ds or wii game.
Scribblenauts~OKay, let me get this straight. I love scribblenauts, and it is in the top 3 of my DS games already, however, it wasn't what it exactly was hyped up to be, if you know what I mean.

...er...actually a lot of people I know share your sentiments. Especially if you're talking about the first five minutes. In fact, my friend who lent me the game admitted himself that he didn't like a lot of the beginning at all, and another friend I recommended it too felt the same way. She almost didn't finish it; but it does pick up towards the end of the game *shrug*

I don't think CoD is overrated anymore, and I respect Gears of War as a series now, but Halo is probably the number one game that I hate with every fibre of my being. Shut up about it already! I wouldn't have a problem with it, if it wasn't for the fans making a wall with their bodies. They will guard their precious egos and their god of games to the point of actual religion. I don't want to hear how you "pwned that n00b". I don't care how you can't use real words to get your point across. I don't care.

They always seem to enjoy the storyline, and I remember first reading about it and noticing the Disney characters. But when everyone was talking about the original characters, (all freaking day) I thought there were no Disney characters, and I had made them up. This was right up until last month. ONM had a review of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days or whatever. I noticed Mickey Mouse and was stunned. There are Disney characters? Right. I also laughed my head off. They gave it something like 78%

It's reguarded as the scariest in the series, but after SH3, I can't believe it. There are only one or two instances where the scenery changes into the "alternate" version (sorry can't remember what it's offically called), and when it does, the only difference is a little more gore and blood on the walls and enemies. The plot also makes very little sense.

Well, to each his own. I thought SH3 did everything that SH2 did, but better overall. It had great graphics that still look amazing today, better locations, more WTF moments, a better plot.

I think also are a lot of Harry Potter movies overrated:Most of them a bad made and much from thr story is missing

*shrugs* I guess but just to clarify I checked with my other SH friends and they said in spite of playing SH3, 2 was better despite the irony of it being a spin off from the main branch. Mind you I don't think it's hyped enough to be mainstream in the first place. Nonetheless glad I could explain a little about the game to you.

It is odd but I like Rouge MMOS better like the Dot Hack series and Phantasy Star Zero that recently came out for the DS. You can just do some dungeon crawling for a while and it is easy to enter and leave and does not have such a heavy emphasis on Quests.
I think Rock Band/Guitar Hero is overrated because the new versions cost just as the old one not to mention that the instruments are sometimes not compatible for older versions.
The online community should have include an option where you could search out for players who wanted to play on a certain difficulty mode etc. There have many times that I have been kicked from a session just because I chose medium difficulty.
I also keep wondering when Rock Band and Guitar Hero will reach a point where the average consumer will not be interested in it anymore because both series have been milked to death.
