I recently (read as: two days ago) got my hands on this game.

If I had to describe, it's a fusion of Final Fantasy, Dungeons and Dragons, your standard fantasy setting, and a bit of KotOR.

Plot is very simplistic: You get inducted into what basically amount of paladins to fight off a horde of what I describe of as "undead demons", and there are traitors, and crap like that.

Doesn't stop it from being fun though (though they can do without the random battle feature).

Depends on what the person's tastes are.

If they like RPGs, then I would definitely recommend this game. It's got all the standard RPG mechanics while still being very fun to play.

If they don't, then I won't force this onto them. It certainly is a massive change in pace from other RPGs, unless you played D&D or KotOR.

Well then I think I might pick this one up for Christmas. I'm kind of a sucker for D&D and this game looks really cool

Ah yes. THAT guy. Strange, he was rather easy for me. Sure I got one injury (I swear that the Templar guy whose name eludes me suffers from The Worf Effect).

I'm currently busy trying to reactivate
Spoiler:
Shale. But apparently the reactivation effect doesn't work.

Sounds like a standard dungeon crawler to me, although that may just be the use of dungeon in the sentence. :yuusaku:

By "Dungeons and Dragons" I mean the leveling system, the prestige classes, the party system, quest types, combat especially, and the basic plotline.

Can't get any more generic for a fantasy game if you delve into "hero joins paladins and goes off to kill a powerful monster with an unreasonably small party".

I was going to rent this but Hollywood's game library went from 200+ to less then 50 LITERALLY overnight. I have high expectations for this and Bioware's next two games, Mass Effect 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

I got this game for Christmas and I absolutely love it. I think that this is one of the best games of 2009. I think the story is expertly crafted and the characters are interesting. The game is hard (for me at least) many times I have found myself getting easily killed when things get a little hectic. There have been moments when I had to change the difficulty down to casual, especially during certain boss fights (especially Piotin) I still have not completed the game yet but I hope to soon

I finally got talked into playing this and I was absolutely shocked at how much it made me care about my party members. I'm not really used to this much character interaction and growth from my Western RPGs. I would seriously play a game that was just me, Morrigan, and Alistair shooting the shit in a tavern.

I really like that my own responses and decisions have such a huge effect on how things play out. (I don't want to spoil anything, but some of the choices you have to make around the end of the game are difficult choices.)

The only thing that really disappointed me was that I devoted a whole bunch of time and energy to trying to turn Alistair gay for my male main character...but I guess it's only possible with mods to the pc version. I'm playing on my PS3. :( Oh well, we'll be best buds for life, anyway.

Alistair has to be the funniest party member I've ever had in a game.

Spoiler:
and the fact that he calls himself a royal bastard when you find out he has royal blood

Some party members are downright useless, though. It saddens me.
Spoiler: synopsis of followers
The.. err, prisoner guy. I totally forgot his name, is tarrble. Dies too often.
Leliana is rather useless unless you figure out she's actually meant to use bows. I gave her knives in the beginning and she died often.
Alistair has his uselessness, too. He's good if your character is a sword/shield character, though. Then you'd be used to it.
Wynne is completely useless unless you run out of health potions (which sounds strange), I beat the Archdemon with her by just spamming the ballista and using healing/resurrection magic when necessary.
I personally never used Morrigan, so I can't say much about her.
Shale is a powerhouse. If you got the Stone Prisoner DLC with your game, you MUST get her. (yes, Shale is a girl. Hey, this is a spoiler tag. What did you expect?)
Your dog, well, he's okay. I never really used him.
Zardan (or whatever that elf guy's name is) isn't bad, but I never used him, either.
Loghain (SHOCK AND AWE) is supposedly a "better Alistair",(Alistair leaves if you get Loghain) but I never got him. I need to go back and do that.

I got this when it came out and played it twice through. I LOVE this game x]
I was a elf mage, so I suppose some things were actaully really easy for me (apparently warriors, etc, are really hard to use), and it was pretty much a breeze for me.
The only things that gave me grief were the bosses in the Mage's Tower (EVIL EVIL EVIL DEMONS) but other than that, yeah, it was fun all the way through.
In terms of graphics, weelllll....it could certainly be alot better. I understand that it's been in development for ages, but Mass Effect 1'n'2 were out pretty speedily.
As for the characters, I love 'em! My favourite was Alastair (damn! No MxM other than Zevran!-ahem) and Wynne was a close second. Bioware does wonders in the dialog trees, as they always have, so each convorsation is fulfilling.

Yay! :D

I was really surprised to find how addictive this game was. Was never one for Western RPGs before, but man, I can say I'm more than willing to try them out now after playing Dragon Age: Origins. xD

I especially love how there's so much flexibility in the plot; your decisions really affect what goes on around you. And it has such an emotional impact on the player because of it. Another thing I really like about this game is how much depth there is. Have you read the Codex entries? There's so much backstory in there, so much history, and man am I a sucker for story. The battles make for good challenge too; it's not a game where you can hack and slash all the way through.

Needless to say, two thumbs up from me. Would recommend this game to anyone in a heartbeat.
