Phantasy Star Zero has just came out for the Nintendo DS it can be played offline in story mode and be taken online to be played with other people. :keiko:

I just got it so it is my first Phantasy Star game so I don't know what I will encounter it is still pretty good for an online MMO game developed for the DS.

While character creation does not have a very large customization you can go back and change what you look like at any time by selecting the Dressing Room option which is nice.

You hardly use the touch screen at all with the exception of creating your own messages in a PictoChat where you can write out messages and send images to other players. You can even trade and keep images that you like I haven't tried this feature out much online.

There are three online modes to choose from Play with Friends, Play Alone, and Free Play with the last one being a way to connect with other players without having to use a friend code unfortunately you can not add friends to your list that you meet online also enemies and bosses tend to be stronger online as well.

Story Mode you can start off as any of the three races with Humans being for beginners and so forth each gets their own story arc to follow along with anime cut scenes to enjoy and I haven't experience the other two other then human.

I heard it took the best things about Phantasy Star Online and Universe and combined them for the DS version which takes places before the other games unfortunately I don't know much about them.

So I want to put out my friend code out there feel free to add me if you want to and I will do the same I also posted it on the court records friend code offical topic.

I will probably just play around in story mode. I'm told the game doesn't support certain network security types, so I won't be able to play with folks online. =(

Bought the game the day it came out (the 11th) and have been playing it nonstop since. I'll probably never finish 358/2 Days because of it.

As someone who bought the DreamCast JUST to play the original PSO when it came out AND was extremely disgusted by how shallow Phantasy Star Universe was, this game is a god send. It's literally PSO with twice the levels, twice the customization, all the fun and simply gameplay. It only has THREE minor problems; the story mode is excessively wordy. Characters NEVER shut up and it gets pretty annoying quick when all you want to do is play the game, but don't want to skip dialogue because you wanna know what's going on. Second problem is the X button. Instead of allowing you two more assigned actions, they instead used the X button to rotate the camera when you hold L or R before pressing X. This is pretty much useless since there will be no time in the game where you would be able to turn the camera while playing, and tapping the L button auto-aligns the camera behind your character anyway (which makes turning the camera left to begin with a hassle). The final issue is probably the smallest, but there's no touch screen input on any of the name entry/friend code entry/keyboard screens. I thought that was a standard by now, but oh well.

Oh ya, all of the Nintendo weapons (Warp Pipe Bazooka, Link's Hylian Shield, Samus's Arm Cannon) have been removed from the North American version of the game. Some of the special weapons have been replaced by Sega themed weapons (mostly from Valkyria Chronicles).

But otherwise this is literally PSO except with new graphics, more levels, more classes, and more awesome. If you enjoyed PSO you'll love this to bits.

A couple of corrections, all minor...

The game's called Phantasy Star Zero, not "Oh." You might get people confused with Phantasy Star Online. :maya:

None of the Phantasy Star games are MMO's, as you can only play with 3-5 other people at a time (depending on which game you're playing).

Only the HUmar (Male Human Hunter) is the beginner class. Other human classes are actually quite advanced, specifically the FOmarl (Female Human Force) who is the best healing class in the game, and are quite difficult to play with. All three races start off with a different starting area out of three, with CASTs (the robot race) having the easiest path and Newmans (the elf like race) having the most difficult. But after the first three areas the stories lead to the exact same path.

It isn't stated when PSZ takes place in the Phantasy Star series.

Okay I corrected my error thanks! From what I did hear from a developer interview Zero is supposed to take place before the rest of the series.

As for the camera angle I hear you only have to push the L button or was it hold L then push down on the D Pad? Fortunately for me there is always room to fight around enemies and using items is easy if you have them on the shortcut button.

I didn't know there were Nintendo items in the game they probably removed them because of copyright issues over in the States although the games are trademarked by Nintendo anyway so who knows?

Yeah, copyrights wouldn't be an issue. The only conclusion we can come to is that Sega removed them to advertise their own games (Like Sands of Destruction and Valkeria Chronicles).
