I usually prefer playing the path of Renegade, but for the special arrival of Mass Effect 3 I played through 1 again as pretty much nice guy that saved everyone, but he wasn't afraid to be a badass in how he did it. My very first playthrough ever, I was a Soldier and I really didn't care for the whole just point and shoot aspect of the class (I accidentally skipped over character customization cause I'm awesome), then I picked up Adept in ME2 which is a total blast with Singularity and Warp explosions. Turians are my favorite race since Garrus, and since Garrus is Garrus who happens to be a Turian, that makes Turians my favorite race. I bet ya liked my syllogism right there. As far a sex buddies go, I usually pick Liara in ME1, but I went with Tali in ME2 and I plan on sticking with her 3.
Now that I've stirred the pot, hopefully I will get some discussion eventually. My Mahvel thread was a bit slow after it's conception, but it got poppin! Yeah Mass Effect!

Jane Shepard awoke from Project Lazarus to a world where Wrex and the Council died because of her, and believes in stopping the Reapers regardless of the cost - but she won't allow any further harm to come to her crew (particularly Garrus). Nor will she mindlessly sacrifice lives if she isn't convinced it's worth the cost. She believed saving the Collector Base would be an insult to humanity's potential.
...Or in short, a completionist Paragon MaleShep who romanced Ashley who I've been running with since ME1, and a Renegon FemShep who romanced Garrus who I started in ME2. I may make a full Renegade for a third ME3 run if I'm up for it.
Super hyped for ME3, incidentally. Got the game all pre-loaded and ready to go.

Anyway I picked Engineer and loved it got my little drone who is like "Yo guys hey ya wanna shoot me? *zap* How bout now? How bout now? How bout now? *explodes*" Which was pretty cool especially since it opened so many people up to fist to the back of the head. I also maxed Overload and just wiped out Geth and things. I really don't know what problem the Quarians have with Geth, Tali and me would just Mass Hack/Overload our way through the things and supposedly all Quarians have great engineering capabilities.
Favourite race: Krogan cause y'know they rock and smash stuff. It's a source of great disappointment that as a PS3 owner I can't have Wrex in ME3 but oh well...maybe Grunt will be there instead.

Oh that's terrible. It's a pity that they don't give you the option to save Wrex in the comic you guys get
. As for the metagame of accumulating Ren/Para points, most of the time I go full Renegade (well aside from treating a few people nicely). I'm racist in someways like I saved dying Salarian in Thane's recruitment mission, but I let the Batarian die in Mordin's mission. I killed the Batarian terrorist in the Bring Down the Sky mission in ME1 which in turn killed the hostages. Xavier Shepard usually never gives a fuck about anybody else's needs if it doesn't benefit himself. Yeah! He just punches reporters in the face and takes names while being a badass. He's also quite sensitive when it comes to his squadmates. Yep, he hugged Tali to make her feel better. Xavier will leave a path littered with broken hearts and bodies in order to stop the Reaper invasion!

Think I let the Salarian die...though I didn't punch the reporter in the face...though I did headbutt a Krogan. Though I don't think anyone could NOT hug Tali.
Also I was playing the game second hand so didn't have the comic unfortunately.
I play online on PS3 hope the matchmaking gets fixed it can be really hard getting a game with my girlfriend.

Social-wise, she tries to be diplomatic most of the time (to the point of actively avoiding confrontation at times), but she won't mince words if you're being a sufficiently large ass (she regrets not having been able to do this to the quarian Admiralty. Fortunately, the crowd was willing to lend a hand with that). A believer in the galactic melting pot, she detests Councillor Udina's parochialism (and, well, a lot of other things about him).
As an Infiltrator, she prefers cunning and precision to brute force. Of course, there's nothing that says they're mutually exclusive (M-98 Widow, hell yeah).
In her free time, she writes essays critiquing the sometimes-warped notion of morality that Mass Effect seems to possess.
On ME3: Ugh. I haven't played it yet, but my brother has, and his assessment so far is that while it's not quite Dragon Age 2 yet, it's getting there with ridiculous gameplay changes and forced plot elements.
Does anyone else think it's bad, or at least not up to expectations?

I'm about 8 hours in and I've been really enjoying it, but if I had to pick two problems they would be:
- The neutered conversation system. There's a huge increase in automatic conversations, and actual conversations more often than not wind up giving Shepard two choices. What's more, I've seen one Charm/Intimidate prompt and one just-Charm prompt thus far - and the latter was setup for a romance I wasn't going to pursue. It's sort of jarring to constantly get reputation/Paragon/Renegade points when you never get to actually use them.
- The new journal system. Lumping everything into one column and then removing any sort of progress indicator besides "done" and "not done" is just a mess, especially considering how many sidequests the game throws at you.
I didn't play DA2, so I can't compare it to that, but it's definitely got its issues. I do hear the game improves significantly about halfway through, so I'll have to wait and see.

I disagree with some things you say particularly the last segment. Its not a matter of neutrality as much I believe we should roleplay this properly and choose choices we believe in, which can result in a mix at times which is why I dislike how the Para/Gade system has been reworked as now I feel more pressured to stick to one path.
But yeah somebody died today, lord rest their soul.

I've heard reviewers guffaw about EA's claim the game is accessible to new players, and that'd probably be why, none of the emotional impact of it.

Though yeah I'm glad they ain't outright changing it in some aspects, I know it's full of plotholes and some folks will just explode at the fact that's not fixed but it would show very little integrity for the writers to go back on their word and utterly retcon the finale as a dream or something.

Anyway, I didn't actually know about the paragon/renegade thing until quite far down the line. It seems I had been mostly paragon though anyway, which would have been the way I had done things. I ended up using a glitch to max out my paragon because of the guy I didn't want to have to kill in Feros. I've not finished the game yet, I'm just about to go to Ilos.
Only thing I can complain about, which is a personal preference, is that I don't like the amount of combat and the real time format of it. I find it quite hard and not really that enjoyable. I get a sense of achievement once it's over but meh, I'm much more of a turn based person, if I have to do combat at all that is. Won't stop me getting the other two though.
P.S: I HATE the Mako. I hear it's not in 2 and 3. What do you use instead then?
EDIT: Btw I got with Ashley, not because I liked her but in ME1 it's either her or Liara who I never felt the chemistry with. She just popped it out of the blue (get it ;)) one day and it seemed weird, so I thought I'd go for Ashley.

Nah Biotic and Tech powers aren't hard to use at all, if anything I find Biotic powers the most satisfying. Nothing beats leaving a guy floating in the air helpless until you send him flying into the stratosphere!
In regards to the Mako, there are no vehicles that you use. Aside from the Hammerhead tank which is rarely utilized in Mass Effect 2.
And not romancing Liara? Bah Liara is so awesomely innocent! Both Ashley and Kaiden are terrible characters, I've never liked the human soldier squadmate in all three games.

And not romancing Liara? Bah Liara is so awesomely innocent! Both Ashley and Kaiden are terrible characters, I've never liked the human soldier squadmate in all three games.

My experience of Tech powers seems to be "Push button to hurt people" I've not really understood how they are different but no it's no big deal and it gets even simpler in later games.
Though Tech is far superior to biotics. Sure it's nice to make Aliens float through the sky but what about Armour? Oh noes! Wanna make that giant robot stomp his mate? Done! Summon Mighty Explosive drones with no fear of death!

Of note: The Krogan Battlemaster Vanguard is reasonably broke online I mean...it's like the guys never playtested it or just decided 'right what would be amazing?'

Yes Lag destroys Vanguards.
Yet I still think Krogan vanguard is pretty broken since it makes Krogan fast and removes the glass cannon drawback.
Ok so you can't biotic charge as quickly, you don't want to so much as a Krogan, you want to heavy melee to get your Rage going then regular melee stuff to death. Go one-to-one with Primes and Win because they don't have an instant kill.
So wave 10 defending a point against geth everyone is down but me on one health snippet to go.
Hold the place for about 3 minutes against endless pyros and hunters an rockets and pyros.
Regenning a shield entirely that big is no joke so slowing down powers with barrier isn't such a problem with the right build which for me is a single pistol AND MY FIST.
