Capcom seems to want to get the ball rolling on AA5 in the west. Speaking to Kotaku and Pocket Gamer, Capcom representatives confirmed they have plans to bring Ace Attorney 5 to both the US and Europe.

Kotaku wrote:
Capcom rep wrote:
Capcom is planning to release Gyakuten Saiban 5 (Ace Attorney 5) in the West. We'll have more news soon.

A Capcom representative also clarified that they use "West" to refer to both the U.S. and Europe.

Spoiler: Original report
Take this with a grain of salt, since I don't know how trustworthy this website is, or who exactly in Capcom they contacted. The fact they list AA5 as also being for iOS doesn't fill me with confidence.

Anyways, Pocket Gamer claims Capcom tells them AA5 is coming west.

Quote:
Updated on September 5th, at 14:50: We have since been told by Capcom that it is "planning to release Ace Attorney 5 in the West". Capcom will "have more news soon".

For now, I'm not treating this as confirmed until we get some more sources.

This is by far the quickest I've ever witnessed a game being announced in Japan and announced for localization in the west. Though, one shouldn't read this as their being released at the same time. That's never happened before, even with Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations, whom were made specifically for localization. Still, you can't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Also, heads up about our Pick Your Prosecutor Contest

To recap, this contest was restarted in January this year. So if you made an entry in the 5 years we've been waiting for confirmation of a sequel, then you'd best make your entry. For the rules, you just describe what you think the prosecutor will be like. You won't be penalized for things you get wrong, just right. And the prizes?

Image

Official Key Chain covers!

Now, the reason for this post. When we held this contest back for Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, we didn't realize that Klavier had made a stealth cameo months earlier in the original TGS reveal trailer. (Skip ahead to 1:50). We thought it was Klavier or something. Didn't really look Lawyer-y.

So fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us. First HINT that the prosecutor's been revealed, we lock the Pick Your Prosecutor topic. But in the event that it's a nonsensical silhouette like in the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney trailer, we'll still lock it and just sit on our butts and wait until the prosecutor is formerly introduced before judging and passing out prizes. It's not fair to the other contestants if your go back and change your entry to what little was visible in the trailer. So there.

So yeah! Hooray more Ace Attorney! And lets see those contest entries folks! If I don't get at least one entry where someone thinks the prosecutor breaths fire, wears a rainbow afro and throws his desk at the defense whenever he/she gets mad (Which would be simply because the Defense is still breathing his/her air goddamit) Then… I'll… I'll…. I'll think you are a bunch of weirdoes. Who wouldn't want such a prosecutor? I mean, besides the wuss behind the defense desk of course!

If the Kotaku guy is also verifying the game via Capcom then I think it's safe. I can't imagine them pulling our leg without good reason.

Though, it is a little odd. This is the first time I've heard about verification of a localization so soon. For any game really,

Now what if it were going to be released at the same time everywhere. :sawit: (But let's not get greedy :redd: )

For better or worse, whatever the decision to push Phoenix as the active protagonist again brings, we're definitely going to get to see it with our own eyes this time.

So I think we can get hyped.

Im really excited. Assuming it comes out sometime next year in Japan, i bet wed have it by early 2014. Based on the incredibly long localization period for the layton games (almost two years) we might have this before we have layton vs AA.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

We really shouldn't be complaining here. He we are. THE game we've been waiting for years has just been officially announced, complete with art and screenshots, AND confirmation about localization. I SURE AS HECK AM EXCITED!

(I can't believe people are complaining about Apollo. First off, this is only our first look. Apollo is still around and will likely show up, and he may even be playable. Look at GS4. We got to play as Phoenix for awhile. And GS3, we got to play as Mia, and even as Edgey.)

Ya Sniped me Bolt. I had just finished writing my own report on the event when the board crashed… which likely meant you had already posted it by then. So I just slapped in anything you didn't snipe me on from my write up. Hope ya don't mind. If you do mind then well, delete it.

No, it's cool. I was at class when confirmation broke and I was actually pretty surprised there wasn't a report up by the time I got back.

*Still with mixed feeligs for this game,
but slightly warming up*

If it can be trusted, then this is good news. Easily.
With that and the Laytons FB in west the PL-VS-AA also seems to be sure to hit here.
Combined together, maybe the western AA FB will rise?
And with that...Maybe we someday can get AAI2 too before 2068?
Not getting my hopes up on that though, but just a small little wish.

Oh well, once it hits the stores, I'm sure to pick it up.
If not for anything else, then just to further my collection.
...NO; I seriously wanna play it, take a jok lol.

Now this was a quick announcement. Since it's been confirmed so quickly though, it wouldn't be entirely unreasonable to suggest that we might actually get this game around the same time Japan does.

Nah. I somewhat doubt it. Think back to GS3 and GS2 on the DS. They were made so the Westerners could enjoy the games. But Japan got them first, with English and Japanese. Ultimately it's about proof reading. And I hear that the Japanese and Western releases are very different in that regard. Particularly European English, who got the proofreads from Japan and North America.

Oh, I guess not. I just thought that since it's been announced this early a localization is already in the works.

Actually, what I should be more concerned about is that since that I live in the UK, I'll probably have to wait a few months after it's released in the US (which has already been the case with other games.)

This is great news! I bet they confirmed it so quickly so that Western buzz couldn't be quashed by concerns that AA5 would go the way of AAI2.

In all seriousness, as excited as I am about the news of a return, Capcom has proven they don't give a damn about the AA franchise anymore outside Japan. They have done nothing to inspire my confidence (the iOS re-releases do not impress me much at all). PL vs AA will more than likely get localized thanks to Level-5 being in control, but I doubt we'll ever see a new AA game outside Japan again. :chinami:

So I don't know if this has been mentioned or not, but Capcom are preparing a dedicated site for GS5 and they are going to hand out AA themed straps for those who try out the demo at TGS.

Usually the year that it is shown at TGS is the year before its japan release right?
And usually a us release is like 7-10 months afterword.
So we have some time to kill.

On the bright side, when Capcom announces a real release date we can kill the rest of the time by playing the entire series again. Im going to try and end Apollo Justice the night before GS5's release.

Haha well Replays are better when a long time has passed so if you havent played them since Investigations comes out you should he ok. I played Imvestigations for the first time in fall of 2011 and replayed them all again this year. But I figure it will probably be 2014 when GS5 comes out so Ill be ready for them again then.

Given that the 3DS is a damn good console, and has a fairly good future to look forward to the next year and beyond, the apprehension to buy one is more out of a lack of solid information that perhaps a little looking around may cure.

Seriously, I had one - and before it was stolen, I loved it to bits...I'll definitely have no qualms rebuying one.
The stigma that the console is fatally flawed and/or undergamed is really one that needs to be addressed, TBH.
