Yeah I'm very disappointed in this. It seemed like with the new courtroom look and the plot that the jury would have fit in there.
I just hope they actually explain it in a way that makes sense.

The bombing took down the courtroom that likely served a large portion of Los Angeles, so without a courtroom, LA has to fit double the cases into another courtroom somewhere else. It could very well be that, with twice the cases, there isn't enough time to go through the Jurist system, so they temporarily reinstated the Initial Trial system until the old one can be rebuilt.
That's my guess, at least. If it's been removed for good then I will flip.

It's not a different courthouse. Only courtroom No. 4 was bombed, and it has the same build as courtroom No. 5. What's new about them is the interior design from GS4 to GS5.
Capcom most likely rushed through development so that implementing a jury would take too much trouble. Now, I don't see why it'd be so difficult to include an anonymous group of people watching from their chambers and making a vote, but I suppose it'd be better than just a few extra lines of dialogue at the end of the trial about the jury's verdict. This game had potential for a completely new game play mechanic involving the jury's wavering opinion, but they didn't go that route. Perhaps they're saving it for a future game?

You bring up some good points. Politics may have a large role in this game after all. It also explains Phoenix's return to court and Edgeworth's rise in position... and possibly Maya's secret role in the plot. For them to keep her presence so hushed, she ought to have a rather spoiler-filled role, right? I hope so.

WTF? I was looking forward to seeing what they'd do with that, maybe you would have to persuade the jury as well as the judge, or something.
Anyway I thought the jury system was introduced in GS4 to reflect changes in the actual law system in Japan, so why have they dropped it? It just.. doesnt make any sense!

However, I recently tried replaying the 4th game on my 3DS, and it's hard to do the fingerprints with the location of the microphone versus the first DS or the DS Lite. Aside from that, though, I had fun doing all the CSI-style work. Not all THAT attached to the character either way.

Wait, what was the whole point of Apollo Justice, then, if they introduce the Jury System in that thing and then chuck it out the window immediately? Total bull, man, and that destroys my idea of the gameplay requiring me to convince the Jury onto my side. And the whole corrupt Jury thing. And the initial suspicion the Jury could have, depending on who the defendant is.
4. Simon Blackquill is a convicted prosecutor who uses psychological manipulation on his opponents and the Judge
So he's basically gonna be a dick who uses wordplays and similar to confuse opponents? How is that any different from the previous prosecutors?

I seem to remember AAI having as much content as T&T. Am I wrong there? Did AAi have more/less? Because now that I think about it I'd think he'd reference his own game if he was going to mention one.

I didn't want either of them back originally, but if I had to pick I'd rather have Maya back than Gumshoe. I always liked Gumshoe but I always preferred Ema as a detective and through the recent games he's become a bit of a parody of himself. I'm very happy that he's not coming back and has finally ridden himself of all of the people who make his day hard (Edgeworth, Phoenix, etc.). Maybe he bought a timeshare of some sort.
As for Maya returning, I don't think they'll try her for Murder again because its been done so many times before. Maybe she just becomes involved in a case, or ends up channeling the victim or something. I think she'll have an important role but I don't think that they will retread that much.
The fact that Gumshoe isn't returning actually gives me some confidence that the game won't be too self-referential. I think it shows restraint and hopefully that means none of the other characters we've seen enough of (Von Karma, Larry, Oldbag) will be present this time. It's not that I don't like those characters, but there are plenty of other characters who've missed out on screentime.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.
