Frankly? She is filler material in Golden. She doesn't really add much to the actual story of P4.
She's just there to give us an Aeon Arcana Link.

Sorry Cat but when 90% of your reviews and opinions are negative I think I'll wait for someone else's opinion XD

Spoiler: Marie Spoilers
She's a part of Izanami. She starts off amnesiac. When you do her Social Link and then save her in her dungeon, a bonus dungeon for Golden, she will remain in her human form... and later becomes a weather lady because SHE CAN LITERALLY CONTROL THE WEATHER!

So, like, yeah... she's filler. And she's a damn Mary Sue.

Tch. It's almost like you're trying to convince me that she's a bad character.

*shrugs* Everything new in Persona Golden is filler, it's Persona Special Edition they weren't going to change it horribly or the folks who played the original would feel cheated.

Though I dunno if any of the things you said made her a Sue as such.

Kanami Mashita, she was Rise's "replacement" after Rise quit Show Business (Everyone in Persona 4 says Show Biz, how bizarre...)

More commonly known as Kanamin.

My take on Marie. She was an okay character. Her inclusion in the story isn't bad by any means, I feel it fit okay. I just didn't care for her too much personally. I kinda agree with Cat as to how she serves as a filler character. As for being a Mary Sue, I say I'm iffy on that, considering all the behind the scenes stuff that goes on in the Persona games and what not with all the different Gods and Goddesses. Heck, I could argue that some of the things the Main Protagonists are capable of would be on levels of Mary Sue-ness. So, she fits in the universe, to me, for the most part, but she's just there for me.

I quite liked Marie, personally :phoenix: Yes she's a sterotypical tsundere, but I like her nonetheless; her niavete and short nature resulted in some cute and laugh-out-loud scenes, particularly where certain pieces of poetry are involved :phoenix: I found I legitimately cared for her, and enjoyed her addition to the Persona 4 universe. That said, Naoto is still my favorite female in the game, but she comes a close second :phoenix: I realize though that aside from the end twist she didn't contribute much to the story, and people are quite divisive about her as a character; I can understand if people disagree with me about her :trucy:

And Yosuke and Narukami's ass getting pinched. It was just a hilarious episode.

Darn it, I'm going to have to rewatch it myself too after all this discussion :trucy: Narukami absolutely rocks my socks off with his epicness in the anime, and I love seeing all my favorite characters from the game in anime form; it's all just so wonderful :phoenix:

Hmmmm.... Maybe the reason I don't mind Tsunderes as much is because I haven't watched enough anime for it to be overdone? :ron: I dunno; in any case, even though she's a fave of mine, I can understand why you don't like her; from what I hear, it's an extremely overdone anime character trait :ron: And all that being said, I didn't care for Aiya either; I enjoyed her as she was at the heart of some funny moments, but otherwise was unworthy of note; I neither like or dislike her as a result :phoenix:

I do believe the Aiya owner mentions her in Golden, but it's always along the lines of "you just missed her, she went to make a delivery" sort of thing every time.

I don't understand her popularity either. Maybe it's because she's supposed to be some kind of humorous deadpan, emotionless, character?

I don't hate tsundere characters because they are overdone, although they are, but because of that character trait. A tsundere has a tiny thing and instantly starts yelling or hitting someone. "You walked into my room without my permission? I WILL RIP YOUR HEAD OFF!!" Whenever a tsundere reacts to something with yelling I just want to yell back, "Goddammit, calm the fuck down! It's not that big of a deal!" cause they explode at the tiniest of things.

As for Aika, eh, she was... Eh. Kind of a running gag, but I didn't find it very funny. I laughed more at the Persona 4 comicstrips jokes that I know by heart now than Aika's scenes. I dunno, maybe people like deadpan-saying-funny-things characters that appear at the worst of times... it's not my cup of a joke.

That's fair :phoenix: In real life, tsundere characters would, generally speaking, probably annoy or frusturate me to death: people who overreact and rage because of small, stupid stuff are hard to get along with, and are usually more then a little unstable. If Marie was a real person, I'm pretty sure I would stop hanging out with her pretty quickly and likely REVERSE our social link altogether; she's not exactly a ball of sunshine and rainbows :ron: And yet somehow, I don't mind her and other tsundere characters in video games/anime as much; I don't know why :ron: Perhaps it's for the same reason I like Sherlock from the BBC show; he's HORRIBLE, but he's charismatic and interesting, and thus it's more fun to watch him then it would be to live with him :trucy:

Nah, I think it has more to do with the fact not all running gags are created equal, and even the better ones DO get old eventually; I found I laughed a bit the first few times in Aika's case, but not much afterwards. It was one of those jokes that DID get old fast :ron:

Oh, but all that being said, I HAVE seen instances where there are more 'normal', less stereotypically tsundere characters that ARE easy to like :phoenix: Have you ever watched the anime Steins; Gate? One of the main characters- Makise Kurisu is her name- is definitely tsundere, but she's a lot more complex then the stereotypical tsundere, and feels more normal, real and overall likeable then what's normally seen within this mold of character, at least to me :phoenix:

Well, for what it's worth, it's a brilliant anime; probably the best I've ever seen :phoenix: Here's a brief plot summary copied from MyAnimeList:

'Steins;Gate is set in the summer of 2010, approximately one year after the events that took place in Chaos;Head, in Akihabara.

Steins;Gate is about a group of friends who have customized their microwave into a device that can send text messages to the past. As they perform different experiments, an organization named SERN, who has been doing their own research on time travel, tracks them down and now the characters have to find a way to avoid being captured by them.
Read more at http://myanimelist.net/anime/9253/Stein ... Fo5mOc.99'

The main character's a self-proclaimed 'mad-scientist', the time-travel concept is intelligently explained and incorporated, and the twists and turns in the anime make it one intellectually and emotionally engaging show. It has a slow start, but if you have the patience and the willingness to give it a shot, I'd wholeheartedly reccomend it, for what my opinion's worth. :phoenix:

---

ANYHOO... I'm getting off topic here, so back to Persona :phoenix: I know you don't like Marie much, but what were some of your favourite characters in Persona 3/4?

Oh man, I laughed so hard at that one :godot: And the whole trip to Gekkoukan was just a barrel of laughs and funny moments:

*Yosuke, Kanji and Teddie piled up on the bed together, spinning around*
Yu: *lifts up his camera phone* This is going on my wall.
Yosuke: DON'T YOU EFFING DARE!

And then that club scene...
Yosuke: "Hey dude, don't hog all of them at once!"
Yu: "I can, because I'm the king."

Now I'm the type who only dated one girl per playthrough in my run of the game, but that made me laugh :trucy:

Really? I don't remember her VA very well, so I didn't notice a difference :ron: In any case, yeah; that episode was basically a huge nostalgia trip, but I didn't mind that. Persona 4 is better, but 3 is still rather good :trucy:

Speaking of which, the first of 3 P3 movies came out last November; hopefully it's dubbed and sent stateside sooner then later :phoenix: Just judging from the trailers, it looks all kinds of awesome :apollo:

THREE Persona 3 movies? What do they need THREE movies for?
I mean, the only important plot stuff in P3 happens only in the months of November, a bit of December and January. The rest is so... not-eventful, it'd be boring to watch a 1 1/2 hour movie about it.

Really?

You complained about how the Persona 4 anime was paced too fast, now you're complaining about how Persona 3 is too long for too little? *sigh* There's a lot of stuff they can add and really expand upon, like the whole experiment with the Kirijo group, and Yukari's relationship with her mother, or Junpei's dad, or a whole ton of other things. Of course, I haven't seen the movie yet, so I don't know. I do know that Minato rides Mitsuru's motorcycle...while summoning a Persona...in Tartarus...so that's cool.

To better pace and detail the overarching plot, I guess. I mean, there IS a lot there, and I'm sure they want to do it justice :phoenix: Plus, 3 movies for Persona 3 seems... almost poetic :phoenix:

Moving on, they look like they'll all have pretty good substance as well. The first movie is called Spring of Birth, and details the events all the way up till (I think) Fukka's full moon. Apparently a big part of the movie is the protagonist's -here he's named Makoto Yuki- character development as he moves from a 'broken and ambivelent' character to gradually working towards true friendship. It's apparently a good film, though suffers from focusing on the introductory part of the game where characters are established and the more 'interesting' things haven't happened yet. However, it's gotten a lot of good reviews, so I remain optimistic that we'll like it here in the west :trucy:

The second movie is coming out this summer and is called A Midsummer Knight's Dream. Don't know what it covers yet, but the trailer looks cool and introduces my personal favorite character in Persona 3, Aigis :phoenix: I don't think it's been said when the third movie is being released, but I'd guess this winter.

Now speaking personally, both movies look great from the trailers; the animation is phenomonal, and it looks like the soundtrack is back and as stellar as ever. Of course, I can't be certain how great it'll be until I actually watch it as it all comes down to the pacing of the plot, but I'm steadfastly refusing to do so until an official release comes out with the dub :phoenix: In the meantime, I have high hopes and look forward to the day it DOES come out :phoenix:

You complained about how the Persona 4 anime was paced too fast, now you're complaining about how Persona 3 is too long for too little? *sigh* There's a lot of stuff they can add and really expand upon, like the whole experiment with the Kirijo group, and Yukari's relationship with her mother, or Junpei's dad, or a whole ton of other things. Of course, I haven't seen the movie yet, so I don't know. I do know that Minato rides Mitsuru's motorcycle...while summoning a Persona...in Tartarus...so that's cool.

Agreed; it'll be nice to see the plot elements touched on with a little bit more care, or at the very least style, then the game :phoenix: And yes, dat motorcycle is pretty cool :apollo:

I'd like it if they touched more on the Ken and Shinji scene where

Spoiler: Persona 3
Ken's mother is killed as Shinji loses control.

Always liked that bit of backstory, though if they explain that weird cult that's going around a little better that's great too!

Sorry for triple-posting, but yeah; once again, agreed :phoenix: In fact, fleshing out both their characters would be awesome; in P3P we get to know them and learn that they're both pretty great characters in their own right. In the original game however (or the male protagonist's route) all we know is that...

Spoiler:
Shinji is a loner bent towards self-destruction and Ken is a 'mature' kid obsessed with revenge

and neither make a real impact. It'd be nice to see more of them then we did the original game so we can actually get to like them a little more :phoenix:
