Just another one for the collection, just name the saddest moment that made you want to cry. For me, it was...
Spoiler: Final Fantasy VII
Aerith's death in FF7... :larry:

Spoiler: Ouendan 2
The same bit as johnny rainbow, when everyone think the main group is dead

and...

Spoiler: T&T
When Terry Fawles dies (the music really got to me...)

Everybody cried over Aeris. Personally, I wasn't very torn up about it... she was annoying. Although, I cried at the end of FFVIII. I thought it was really pretty. :pearl: Yay for Rinoa and Squall.

Being the AA/GS geek that I am, the moment that made me the saddest (in all of the games that I've played) was probably the end of all three games. I just didn't want them to enddd. :larry: I'm such a loser.

You...prefer Rinoa...over Aerith?

*cough*

These are generally sad; I didn't really cry

Ookay, back on topic. For me, it would be the end of Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, when the Stranger finds out whose body it was that the Glukon parasite was possessing.

Another would be when I entered Milla Vodello's secret room while in her mind in Psychonauts. The burning children were immensely terrifying, but I learned her memories later that put it into a very sad context =(

Um, when Long left Uriko at the end of Bloody Roar 2. They were so cute together! He got to be the daddy figure and all that; and had her totally aping his martial arts for 3 months! It was adorable! A tiger and a kitten...and then he left =(

(Fine, they reunite several times in the later games, but it wasn't the same! The story sucked after BR2!!)

Ones where I cried

Ending of Panzer Dragoon Saga. Nuff said.

E.E.'s death... It's not so much the death itself, although the "Call me Emma..." thing made me emotional, but when her parrot comes up and repeats "Hal... I miss you... I miss you. Hal.".

I think I shed a tear, first time ever in gaming. ;_;

Yep. :godot: I'm unconventional like that. I also hate how they changed her name to "Aerith", but that's neither here nor there.

@Jibo - oh GOD that was so sad. Even though I didn't like her character, oh man, that was just so emotional. I definitely cried, like, a lot. I'm starting to tear up even now. ;_;

The ending of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.
Spoiler:
After you beat Rayquaza and he stops the meteor, you've fulfilled your destiny as a Pokemon and now have to say goodbye to your friends (even your partner, your best friend, who was the only one who stayed with you when you were chased out of the village) and go back to your human life that you don't even remember... I just don't like when close friends are separated like that... and then you wish really hard to stay and Gardevoir decides to be nice and let you stay, and you and your partner have a really cute, happy reunion

That was a brilliantly done scene.

Spoiler: Metal Gear Solid 3
I also liked the Boss' death scene in MGS3, which was also done extremely well, because of the impact it had on Snake, and the the whole tragic heroine thing too.

Spoiler: FFX
The best moment of this game was also the saddest. While in Home, Tidus finds out what REALLY is going to happen, and how hopeless the situation is. And he breaks down. Then that aeon comes over and hugs him. That just did it for me. Brought me to tears.

Spoiler: Drakengard 1 & 2
I was taken completely off my feet when Furiae, who you were desperately trying to save, ends up dying anyway. And while that wasn't as sad a moment again, its Inuarts break that really did it. He wants to sacrifice the world to revive a corpse - some emotions has really had to be in place for that. But that's not all - how it is resolved with Angelus chosing herself as the new goddess because she's fallen in love with Caim (although it is heavilty hinted that SHE is actually the one who killed Caim's parents XD), and that apperently was the end of it. What even ESCELATED that was Drakengard 2 - how Hierarch Verdelet, too proud of himself to admit that he only knows how to bind the goddess and not how to restore seals, ends up overbinding Angelus, and instead opting for driving her to insanity, keeping her in place with districts, lit by human sacrifices. He never admits it, but results in Caim losing his mind, hunting down and eventually killing Verdelet, along with Nowe's foster father, general oror, poisoned by the power hungry Gismor (whose storyline is equally sad - telling the tail of the survivors of the Empire, or rather, "the one Caim missed"). And yet, Caim finds out he has to break the districts to free Angelus, which Nowe ends up doing for him - with the tragic result of Angelus being driven beyond insanity and ends up being killed by Legna and Nowe - finally reunited with Caim as they both fade away into a funeral pyre. This ending, in which the main protagonist (if you can call him that!) dies like this is an EXTREME gamble from Cavia. I think it worked - the irony on top of it is just reinforced when it is hinted that Nowe's father is actually Inuart - and that Legna is Inuart's black dragon, who Caim and Angelus fought in the first game. Oh, and I must have failed to mention Manah's story. How her childhood was being being corrupted by her mother's preferism to Seere, leaving her as a perfect victim to the gods (read: giant babies) will. The fact that she ends up losing her memory after Caim (as the good parential figure he is) decides to take Manah out to see what pain she's caused (which she can't bare and ends up sticking said good parential figure's eye out), is also extremely unfortunete. It was really something when Manah cracked after realising she just repeated her old error and brought the world at the brink of the destruction yet again - although without knowing it this time.

The only thing I didn't agree with, but still being sad, is the ending of Drakengard 2. Nowe apperently rather wants to kill his "dad" than live in a world controlled by dragons - something I find extremely odd, I'd chose dragons over flying babies any day of the week.

Spoiler: Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Okay, so this isn't an in-game sad moment, but rather a moment where I felt sad for the game. Midna - the cute, lovably little SOB that follows in your shadow. Who cannot like her? Anyway, at the end of the game, she transform into the twiligt princess, her non-cursed form. Holy shit, did she turn ugly. I mean... fatso-ugly. No sex-appeal what-so-ever, not pretty the leaset, looked more like an insect than an imp, and I sat speechless like Link was - but not because I was stunned by her sexyness exactly! And where Link ends up smiling stupidly, I ended up crying inside, with an equally stupid frawn on my face, although that in no way represented any happy emotions.

EricaP: Thanks for spoiling Tales of symphonia to me. Nah, it's allright. I'll just skip that game now as whatever I could've actually liked from it has now vanished. Good job.

Moments I thought were sad:
Spoiler:
-Zero sacrificing himself toward the end of Mega Man X
-The Zero and X battle near the end of X2
-The final stretch of the last American mission in Call of Duty: United Offensive. German tanks closing in from every side, bodies dropping left and right, running low on ammo, being pounded by tank fire, and then friendly aircraft finally relieving you with unanticipated support. One word: Epic.

Spoiler: Hotel Dusk
-Dunning's confession at the end of Hotel Dusk

Spoiler: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
-Dee's confession of killing Hammer at the end of 1-3
-Mia's death

Spoiler: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
-The end of Chapter 3 in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
-The termination of the computer that helped Peach while in captivity

Moments that made me cry (or nearly):
Spoiler: Elite Beat Agents (Yes. Elite Beat Agents has spoilers)
-The Christmas stage in Elite Beat Agents

Spoiler: Justice For All
-The "Game Over" at the end of JFA if you present the wrong evidence

I can't argue there.
Spoiler: LoZ: TP
I really loved the way Midna looked like cursed. She was some sort of a devilish figure who I loved a lot. I was sad too when she turned to her real self and I nearly cried. The moment was ruined when Link started smiling and I almost thought that game sucks. But then again after the credits had rolled, I was happy again when I started to play the same save file again. There she was, the devilish figure. ^_^

Another sad moment:
Spoiler: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
When Mia died. I was really shocked. I didn't see that one coming, but when I let my mom play the first case, she said to me after Nick had said "That promise was one I couldn't keep" "Is she going to die then?" That made me more sad as I noticed I didn't even think of that. :larry:

But then again, I love Maya and she wouldn't necessarely be in the game if Mia hadn't died. So it's kinda controversy.

Spoiler: FF7
FFVII of course. It's just the way it happened, I was playing when I was suppose to be sleeping. I sneaked to play and when I got the part, I didn't want Cloud to kill her. I swear I stared at the TV for the good 30 minutes before I decided to through with it. Then Cloud didn't kill her, and you know the rest.I cried my eyes out and was seriously pissed at Seph.

Spoiler: Metal Gear Solid 3
The next one was MGS3, Boss dying was another that set me back since I had to shoot her. That messed me up for a little while.

Spoiler: Metal Gear Solid 2
Lady's death was emotional, more so than E.E. to me.

I'm sure there's more, but I can't think so late lol.

Spoiler: Ouendan 2
While it wasn't a sad moment, it did make me kinda emotional: the final stage of Ouendan 2, where the last song is "Sekai wa sore wo ai to yobun da ze". I LOVED the fact that the song itself was the final one, but just the entire stage, the people gathering together and the rival cheer group helping out to save the world..everything about it was perfect. So perfect I almost wanted to shed a tear.

Yeah, it is. It's pretty unpredictable and strange. It's something I didn't even consider to happen. The game is so weird too that the ending and everything else made sense in the end though.

You should still get it. It's a GREAT game. One of the best I have ever played.

Spoiler: School days
This is a soft-core hentai game (don't ask how I got it,) The whole story revolves around a love triangle (between Katsura,Makoto, and Sekai.) In the game there are many happy and depressing endings in the game. One is when Sekai and Makoto admit their love for one another to Katsura and this leaves Katsura petrified, soon after they leave Katsura commits suicide by jumping out the 5 story window and Makoto sees the emptiness in her eyes as she falls to her death. He soon chooses to no longer date for fear of another fatal mistake as that.

It's really sad considering how much she truly loved him.

TBH I found the anime much more saddening. :(

Hey HEY! This thread ISN'T for game-bashing!

*whips out paper-fan and starts thwacking unruly heads*

FYI, even IF FFVII was/is a little over-rated, compared to the insane emo-ness of FFVIII and yes, even in FFX (THE most overrated IMO), it was superior.

(honestly, how the f**king hell am I supposed to take FFVIII and FFX's stories seriously when Squall was based on Gackt+River Phoenix and Tidus was based on Japan's national soccer team captain?! THE HELL!? [And yes, it's a fact. Squenix admitted for both. A good story doesn't need pop culture references in THEIR CHARACTER DESIGNS.])

This begs the question: Did you play the game when it came out or years later after having been spoiled by ignorant Internet users?

No matter how much you are spoiled to a scene, it should have the same emotional impact if it's properly done. I'm sorry to say, but that death scene was arguably the worst I've seen myself.
