Ff3girl returns! To request another pretty piece of art from Vicki... ^_^ You did such a wonderful job with my Celes avatar (that I'm now using as a signature), that I keep thinking I want a Terra one to match. Would you please make an avatar for me with this picture that kind of matches the first one you made for me? I don't really have any specific ideas in my head, but I thought it turned out wonderfully the first time I randomly asked you for something.

One request--could this also say "Ff3girl" on it?

Edit: And this is going to sound neurotic, but would you flip it so she's facing the other way?

Spoiler: terra

And I know that you're busy, so if you can't then you can't. I just already got tired of my cosplay as my avatar. XD

Wa-wa-wa-wow. I kind of hate exclamation marks in general, but that signature is BEAUTIFUL. Such radiant colours and perfectly, thoroughly styled. Big fan of the avatar too, different formats rock my socks.

Wow.... so beautiful, I almost have teary eyes.
And I like it when the text says "Don't make me us my SPIRIT POWERS on you!" my sister really can do this, she's fully-trained.

Spirit powers overrules physical strengths.

And; all the best for your finals, Vicki! :pshhh:

Agreed. Good luck on your finals! We're so close to the end of the semester. :D

Haha, I didn't know how to approach the exclamation marks, Ethed. I was like, "... these exclamation marks will make the text look weird. Hum.." so I just went for it and added a drop shadow, as you can see. It came out okay :)
And yes, I love messing with text alignments. Lots of people struggle with text. Funny how text is such a simple concept in itself but in coordination with other sig elements, it can get frustrating or intimidating.

I appreciate it very much, Ryu! Thanks for the best wishes. I also agree, spirit powers are quite the awesome. :)

I'm not happy with any of these, to tell the truth. Ugh.
After spending around 2 hours with brainstorming with many failed tries, I decided to just submit these.
It's tough working with non-colored pencil art, as well as certain color combinations and text.
Excuses aside, I think I pretty much failed and been defeated for this one.

Boss Velotix, you tell me which one you want, if any, and I'll send the file accordingly afterwards.
(Note: Obviously these aren't the finished versions because one of them lacks the text. These are just "in-progress".)

Oh wow, did I manage to drag Vicki out of her comfort zone? XD

Let's be blunt here: 1 and 2 suck. You know it, I know it, let's move on. :)

With 3, I'm liking it a hell of a lot, but it's not quite there. Let's try this, if you're willing:

  • Make the Soviet logo much larger so it dominates 50% of the background and merge it into the background more throughly - give it a blueish hue if you can, so the cool space-explosion effect and the logo don't clash and instead complement each other. Right now the logo sticks out too much which is probably what's wrecking it from your perspective and making you hate it.
  • Make the tag text a nice icy-blue/white colour - I like my tags with a bit of pop to them. :)
  • Go for the 200x200 max size so you can get the most space to work with here. I think that should help quite a bit.

Image

This is an example of the colour I'm looking for - something around that should mesh well, though maybe you'll need to make it a little whiter. (And yes, I did this logo myself, but unfortunately I've only ever mastered adding a shadow to text... ^^; )

Finally, call me Velo, everyone does, and don't beat yourself up about this - you can't win them all. I repeat: #3 has a lot of potential, so let's not give up on it just yet, OK? ^^
Does we even do these things anymore?

Ha, I don't find it so amusing. :P

Anyways, I disagree with you. I like the first two versions better because my impression is you wanted a cleaner, simpler look.

My impression was that you wanted the logo to have the same color (the firey red), that's why it's unchanged in the last version.
I also am hesitant to make it much much larger because it won't blend with the pencil work well. But eh, whatever, I'll try later.

Vicki, your work is known for making complexity look elegant. It's a marvellous style, and I made this request to you specifically because I know you're the only person who can do it right. ^^

Quote:

My apologies, I intended it to be a minor, atmospheric element of the background. I'm sorry that was unclear before. :)

Quote:

Blending is overrated. :P I think it'd look better merged with the space-explodey background, personally. I think the big issue though is that the damn logo is facing the wrong direction! XD Flipping it would make it look weird... probably? :/

You think you can get the yellow-gold tag to work given the background? If you can, go for it, because it'll definitely look much better and add the regal touch to the graphic. :D

Oh, no. I just don't like mixed messages, because I get confused. :/ I'm sure anyone can understand if something doesn't seem clear.
If you said something like... "I prefer yellow, but it's okay if it's a blue" then that would be better. XP

Anyways, it depends. Contrasting colors (especially yellow) doesn't look good with my style. I've tried it before @_@''
I'll see how it goes.

Sure, Escargotage.

I still had to resort to a shadow effect, but this time I went a little more creative after studying the PSD a little.

Turns out GIMP doesn't have flawless PSD compatibility, so the logo appeared red when I opened the PSD. ARG. However, the image was intact enough to see how you'd put it together. Your secrets are safe with me, but I borrowed one for the BV emblem. :D

GIMP's functionality is inferior to Photoshop's, but Photoshop is £300 and GIMP is free and can be modified legally, so that's to be expected. :P

Also, GIMP uses the .xcf format, which tends to take up about 50-75% of the space a PSD takes up on the hard drive. Guess which format I prefer? ;D

Yeah, I don't have any gripes with GIMP or any similar program. I believe that if you can master a program and use it to your advantage, kudos to you. Even though MSPaint sucks for graphics, I've seen crazy art (drawings, etc.) done with MSPaint. @_@''

What does irk me is when people brag about having Photoshop in their possession but still make crappy graphics with it. XD

MSPaint is surprisingly efficient for sprite work, but little else.

GIMP adds additional flexibility and decent transparancy compatiblity - I'd say GIMP is actually better than Photoshop for working with sprites.

Yeah, definitely. There's tons of programs that I would think would be better for working with sprites. Every program is tailored for different uses -- Photoshop is not like the the undeniable god of all things artistic or anything. I like drawing in opencanvas better than Photoshop XP

Thank you for the answer Vicki, made me feel not guilty. :gymshoe:

Okay, about the image editors:

Even that I have many other image editors, I constantly turn to MS Paint in my office since that the others are in my home PC.

Most unanimated images I made are in MS Paint.

Anyway I feel like requesting (first request..... woohoo!); may I have an av with 138 pixels width (and don't-care-what-height-is-it-as-long-as-it's-not-more-than-200-pixels) and the text saying:

He lives on without mom & dad....

And the av's effects makes people feel sad & sorry for him (if possible, people cry with sympathy when they look at the orphaned kid)...?

The base image, feel free to remove the background (just use the character's pic). Thank you. ^^

That's quite an impressive background! :)

I'm Chinese. My parents are 100% Chinese, but born in Burma (now Myanmar), moved to Hong Kong, and then here.
