I was kinda curious about the movie. The advertisement sucked but I asked a few friends how it was. Half said wasn't good and others said good so saw it myself. Personally I'd give it a 4/5 also. I mean it wasn't perfect but if I could give it some pros and cons here's what I would give:
Pros:
Fight scenes are actually a little longer than the talking! Couldn't stand how in the anime DB and DBZ series they'd talk for 10 mins and fight half of that time.
I thought they did a good job with Piccolo's outfit. I think they could do the same for Frieza or possibly better if they made a DBZ movie. Actor did a good job for that character's voice.
It had some favorite parts in the movie and it's a movie I watched all the way through. The movie didn't bore me. It was a movie I didn't fall asleep watching.
The movie itself did show potential for something "prototypical" (first Dragon Ball movie). I mean if you look at Final Fantasy for example the graphics on the very first game weren't all that great, the plot was ok, and the battle system was so and so (depending on if you like turn-based games) and look how many Final Fantasy games are out now. Just because a game or movie may have started out poor doesn't mean it's not going to have a sequel or more additions in general.
Cons:
Actor who did Goku's part could have done better. How he said some of his lines it didn't sound like he put much effort into 'em.
I found it disappointing Krillin wasn't added into the movie. Some people might think "who cares if he's in it or not" but I could see the last part of the movie a little closer to the series if Krillin fought Piccolo. Just an opinion. I think it'd make a little more sense in the movie if they added him in it. I could also think of other scenes where he could fit in the movie as well.
They didn't mention any of the minor actors and actresses in the movie so those watching the movie might be wondering "who's that?" Example: I don't recall (lemme know if I'm wrong. Maybe I am...only saw the movie once) Mai being mentioned in the movie (not including the ending credits). Also, Mai worked for Pilaf in the series (whereas on here it was Piccolo but I figured it was her because of the appearance and I recall she used a gun in the series). Surprised Pilaf wasn't in the movie either. It seemed like the movie was set up where someone who has seen the series would understand it the best. I dunno...I could be wrong there too. I'm guessing.
Last thing and something a friend of mine mentioned and I'd have to agree: They crammed too much into the movie. The time slot for all of it was seemingly short. I think it would've been better if they had made it a little longer instead of cramming everything in within such a short time slot.
Aside from that I would've given it a 3.5 or 4/5 for 5 stars maybe and for 10 maybe a 7.5/10 or 8/10 at most.
